MEDIA RELEASE GENTING GROUP CONTRIBUTED RM850, 000.00 FOR THE REFURBISHMENT OF LIM GOH TONG LECTURE HALL IN UM

KUAL LUMPUR, 26 JANUARY 2011 As a part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, the Genting Group through Yayasan Lim Goh Tong and UM-Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong Endowment Fund has contributed RM850, 000.00 for the refurbishment of the old Dewan Kuliah 1 in the Faculty of Business & Accountancy, University of Malaya (UM). The renovated lecture hall has been renamed as Dewan Kuliah Lim Goh Tong or the Lim Goh Tong Lecture Hall in honour of the Genting Groups late Founder. It was officially launched by Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, Chairman of the Genting Group in a ceremony at UM today. The Hall can accommodate 600 persons and is equipped with modern teaching and learning facilities such as SMART Podium Interactive technology that allows lecturers to write over
presentation slides and to navigate files and computer applications at a touch of a pen, with the aim of enhancing the delivery of knowledge, learning and/or teaching processes of lecturers and

students. Also present at the launch ceremony were Tun Mohammed Hanif Omar, Deputy Chairman of Genting Berhad, Professor Datuk Dr. Ghauth Jasmon, Vice-Chancellor, UM; directors and senior managers from Genting; professors and lecturers from UM and associated partners. I understand that CSR is not new to Genting Berhad. The organization is active in several CSR activities such as for the protection of environment, marketplace, workplace and community, said Professor Ghauth. In the Faculty of Business and Accountancy specifically, apart from the rebuilding of this lecture hall, Genting Berhad has been active in sponsoring and supporting students activities through Lim Goh Tong Endowment Fund which was established in 2009, he added.

The RM1 million fund, established in honour of Genting Groups late founder is given to students in UMs Faculty of Business & Accountancy, in the form of scholarship and sponsorship of educational and research-based programmes. The fund is being used wisely to support students activities in the faculty such as student exchange programmes, students educational trips overseas and the numerous activities which are being carried by students of both Accounting and Business Clubs. In his speech, Tan Sri Lim commented, the setting up of the Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong Endowment Fund for University of Malaya is to provide a sustainable source to encourage and expand the learning opportunities in the global world for students and lecturers. I hope the Dewan Kuliah Lim Goh Tong will become the choice venue to host regular seminars, eminent lecture and world-class talks that will benefit students, lecturers and the general public. To commemorate the event, Genting has sponsored a special public lecture delivered by Lord Digby Jones, one of the United Kingdoms prominent business speakers on the topic Asia as the New Master of the Business Universe.
