The Open Fuel Standard (H.R. 1687, S. 1603) will open the fuel market to nonpetroleum alternatives, introducing a competitive constraint on the price of oil. This will stimulate economic recovery and protect the United States from OPEC's arbitrary and self-serving oil prices. By making it possible for American cars to run on alcohol and alternative fuels that are producible from American resources, the Open Fuel Standard will free the nation of its perilous dependency on foreign oil. Once the OFS is in effect, hundreds of billions of dollars will remain here at home, contributing to American businesses and workers, stimulating job growth while slashing our deficit. The OFS will create a truly free market in vehicle fuels.

Together we can create a stable environment for job growth and liberate ourselves from foreign oil.

Gen. Wesley K. Clark joined Growth Energy as co-chairman in January 2009. He graduated first in his class at West Point and retired as a four-star general after 38 years in the U.S. Army. General Clark commanded at the battalion, brigade and division level, and served in a number of significant staff positions. He finished his career as NATO commander and Supreme Allied Commander Europe where he led NATO forces to victory in Operation Allied Force, saving 1.5 million Albanians from ethnic cleansing.

Frank Gaffney, Founder and President of the Center for Security

Frank Gaffney is the Founder and President of the Center for Security Policy in Washington, D.C. The Center is a not-for-profit, non-partisan educational corporation established in 1988. Under Mr. Gaffney's leadership, the Center has been nationally and internationally recognized as a resource for timely, informed and penetrating analyses of foreign and defense policy matters. Mr. Gaffney was nominated by President Reagan to become the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Policy, the senior position in the Defense Department with responsibility for policies involving nuclear forces, arms control and U.S.-European defense relations.
R. James Woolsey, Former Director of Central Intelligence Agency, Chairman of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies

R. James Woolsey is Chairman of Woolsey Partners LLC. He is also a Senior Fellow at Yale University's Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. Mr. Woolsey currently chairs the Strategic Advisory Group of the Washington, D.C. private equity fund, Paladin Capital Group, and he is of Counsel to the Washington, D.C. office of the Bostonbased law firm, Goodwin Procter. In the above capacities he specializes in a range of alternative energy and security issues.

Dr. Robert Zubrin is president of Pioneer Astronautics, an aerospace R&D engineering firm. For many years he worked as a senior engineer for Lockheed Martin. He holds a doctorate in nuclear engineering, and has nine US patents granted or pending. He has authored several books on space exploration and energy policy, and is a frequent commentator on these matters in magazine articles, newspaper op-eds, and on the internet.
