MEFS \ TECH \ EXP-029-a 8-way-input card Type 248, Cat No EXP-029

This document describes features of the 8-way 485 input card available from a panel using software release 447x or higher. Communications Each 8-way-input card communicates with the control panel via a 2 core 485 network. The panel is equipped with a 485 driver card in the top left hand position ( i.e. located above loop 5 on the ZXME panel and above loop 3 on the ZX range). Connect the A and B terminal from the 485 output on the panel to the 485 A and B input on the 8-way-input card. The 485 A and B output from the 1st 8-way-input card can then be taken to the next card's A & B terminals. After all cards have been "daisy chained" together, leave the 180 Ohm end-of-line resistor across the A and B terminals of the last card. The earth terminal on the card must be made down to earth for 485 data transmission. Power Supplies Input voltage range Typical current consumption (at 24 V) : 22 to 28 V dc. : All inputs open circuit : All inputs closed - 65mA - 97mA

Up to 8 cards can be powered from the auxiliary power output on the ZX panels. Alternatively any other dc supply of suitable voltage and current rating may be used. A green LED will light up to show when power is applied to the card. Input circuits Each input on the card is equipped with a pair of terminals to accept an input from an external clean contact. Commissioning Once the 8-way-input cards have been installed, enter the "Configure" program and select the "Peripherals" option. Select the Auto Learn option . The program will learn how many cards are connected to the 485 peripheral bus and give a breakdown of how many of each type. e.g.

Programming the inputs Once the peripheral devices have been identified, the device text and input action can be defined. Select the device option from the menu. The display will then show the addresses in use and the type of card at each address. Step through using the Yes key until the desired address is reached. e.g. P:012 Input unit P:012 Z003 Z003-" BOILER ROOM " S= 16 D8..D1= 00000001

- shows this is peripheral address 12. - shows the input card is currently assigned to zone 3. "BOILER ROOM " - is the location text assigned to the card. Input unit - shows this is an input unit S=16 - is the signal from the card. This is fixed at 16. It will drop to 0 if communications or power to the card is lost. D8..D1 - is the present state of all 8 digital inputs The sensor location Text, zone allocation and the action performed by each of the digital inputs can all be set from the display. To make a change, press the "Change" key. A menu will then be presented from which changes can be made. 1) Sensor Text 7)Action 8)Zone

Defining the input action To change the input action, select option 7. The display will then show how the first input has been configured. Input - I1 - creates [ Zone Fault ] "<>" to scroll inputs, CHANGE or ENTER Press the > key to scroll through inputs 1 to 8. Press the CHANGE key to change the action produced by a contact closure occurring at the input to the unit. The options available are :Zone Fault Closing the input puts the designated zone into fault. Zone Fire Closing the input puts the designated zone into fire. Creates a "bomb alert" from the designated zone. All sounders / relay outputs will react according to their programming for this zone. Closing the input forces all on-board sounders and 485 peripheral 4-way sounders to ring. This condition is not latched. Once the input opens again the sounders will stop ringing. Closing the input creates an "input set message" on the display. Any attached graphics systems will illuminate in blue to denote a security

violation. Not that each input can have a different action e.g. input 1 could put the zone in fire, input 2 could put the zone in fault, input 3 could put the zone in bomb alert etc. Press the ENTER key once all inputs have been set.

Setting the board mode The card can be set in either standard mode or expanded mode. In standard mode there is a single zone number and 16 character text description that is common to all the inputs on the card. In expanded mode each input has an individual zone number and text description.When used in expanded mode the next 7 peripheral addresses should be unused e.g. with an input card set with it's DIL switch to address 1, the next peripheral should have it's DILL switch address set to 9. The operating mode is toggled from normal to expanded and back again by choosing the "mode" option from the display. Once set to expanded mode the address displayed will have the suffix "Ex" and will display each input alongside it's individual zone number and location text. e.g. after pressing mode the display will show :-

Pressing the ">" key to move to the next input will show P:013 Ex Input unit I2 - Z056 - " GARAGE " S= 16 D8..D1= 00000001

Address switch Each card has an 8 way DIL switch that is used to assign each card it's unique address.
