Materials Cable ties

1. Remove the three-part exhaust manifold heat shield (11 bolts).

2. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve (EGR valve) and the EGR pipe. 1 Disconnect the vacuum hose. 2 Disconnect the EGR pipe.

3 Detach the bracket for the EGR pipe. 4 Detach the EGR valve from the bracket.

3. Disconnect the multiplug of the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Cut the cable tie.

4. Detach the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold.

5. Raise the vehicle. 6. Remove the front axle crossbrace.

7. Remove the catalytic converter with the front exhaust pipe. 1 Separate the exhaust system. Remove the gasket.

2 Disconnect the HO2S multiplug. Cut the cable tie. 3 Detach the front exhaust pipe bracket from the transmission crossmember.

8. Remove the bracket from the catalytic converter and automatic transmission.

9. Remove the catalytic converter with the front exhaust pipe. S Release and remove the front bracket for the catalytic converter. S Remove the catalytic converter with the front exhaust pipe.

NOTE: Hold the adjusting bolts when slackening the lock nuts. 10. Slacken the lock nuts of the adjusting bolts for the front and middle brake band and turn back a few turns. 1 Lock nuts 2 Adjusting bolts

11. Adjust the brake band. NOTE: Direction of arrow when fitting the special tool.

1 Screw in the adjusting bolt with the special tool until the special tool clicks over. 2 Special tool

12. Adjust the brake band (cont.).

NOTE: Hold the adjusting bolts when tightening the new lock nuts. 1 Turn each adjusting bolt back two turns. 2 Secure the adjusting bolts with new lock nuts.

13. Locate the catalytic converter and front exhaust pipe in position.

14. Lower the vehicle. 15. Attach the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold using a new gasket.

16. Raise the vehicle. 17. Attach the front exhaust pipe bracket to the transmission crossmember. 18. Connect the HO2S multiplug. Fasten the cable with a cable tie.

19. Attach the front exhaust pipe to the rear exhaust pipe using a new gasket.

20. Fit the front bracket for the catalytic converter.

NOTE: The lug faces forwards. 22. Install the front axle crossbrace.

23. Lower the vehicle. 24. Connect the HO2S multiplug. Fasten the cable to the heater coolant hose with a cable tie.

25. Fit the EGR valve and EGR pipe.

1 Fit the EGR valve to the bracket. 2 Fit the EGR pipe bracket. 3 Fit the EGR pipe. 4 Connect the vacuum hose.

26. Fit the three-part exhaust manifold heat shield (11 bolts). S Fit the parts loosely in the order indicated. S Tighten the bolts. 27. Push on the two vacuum hoses.
