The Baker County Board of Commissioners appointed a Wolf Depre ation Compensation
Advisory Committee. The Committee makeup is as follows:

The Committee recommended to the Baker County Board of Commi sioners to apply for $7,501
from the Wolf Management Compensation and Trust Fun . I
In the past year, Baker County has been fortunate to not have any co firmed livestock
depredation from wolf activity. Previously, we had wolf depredation in the county and expect
we will see activity in the future.
The Committee expects to use the funds in the following priority:
1. Production of materials for dissemination to livestock preduc rs ofbest husbandry
practices for livestock areas to dissuade wolf depredation.
2. Development of Alert System to communicate wolf activity'
get clear, timely information to producers.
3. Compensation for Range Rider or other monitoring activities hen possible depredat10n
is likely.
4. Purchase of flaggery to he used by County producers.
The Committee intends to be the Lead in Baker County efforts to com Iy with the OAR's which '
deal with the obligations for compensation rates, proactive llsbandry methods and
policies and procedures for implementing the Trust Fund grant progr

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE BLOCK GRANT P OGRAM2012
A. INTRODUCTION AND PURPOSE
On June 24, 2011, the Oregon Legislature passed House 8i113560, which drected the Oregon Department of
Agriculture (ODA) to establish and implement a wolf depredation compens tion and financial assistance
grant program. using moneys in the Wolf Management Compensation and roactive Trust Fund to provide
grants to assist counties to implement county wolf depredation compensati n programs under which:
1. Compensation is paid to persons for livestock or working dogs t at are injured or killed due to
wolf depredation; and
2. Financial assistance is provided to persons who implement lives ock management techniques or
nonlethal wolf deterrence techniques designed to discourage wo f depredation of livestock; and
3. Compensation is paid to persons fnr livestock or working dogs tat are missing due to wolf
depredation; and
4. Compensation to counties for expenses allowed for implementin the block grant program in their
county.
The bill appropriated $100,000 of the state General Fund to implement tbe ~ a n t program.
ODA's wolf depredation compensation and financial assistance grant progr un complements the Oregon
Department of Fish and Wildlife's Wolf Conservation and Management PI by developing and maintaining
a cooperative livestock producer assistance program that proactively suppa s reducing wolf-livestock
interaction and compensates livestock producers experiencing wolf-related ivestock losses.

Applications for grant funds may be submitted to the Department by Febru ry 15th of each year. Late
submissions may be accepted in the discretion of the Department.
