LAFBL is governed by the National Federation of State High School Association rules.

The exceptions are the following rules are unique to LAFBL and should be consistently implemented. UNIFORM A player who is not in uniform (color of shorts should match with jersey top) will be assessed a technical foul. The opposing team gets possession of the ball and automatic two points. NUMBER OF PLAYERS A minimum four-man line-up is required to start the game without being forfeited. During the championship game, a five-man line-up is required. TIME If a team is ahead by 15 points or more at the beginning of the last two minutes in the second half, time will not be stopped regardless of any infraction. TECHNICAL FOUL If the referees call a technical foul on the bench, the technical foul will count as a personal foul on the team captain. Opposing team will receive two free throws and ball possession. A player who is assessed two technical fouls during a game will be thrown out of the game. A player who consistently questions a referees call should be called for a technical foul. Any player who approaches the scorers table for no other reason than to substitute for another player shall be assessed a technical foul. FREE THROW Players may go for the rebound only after the ball hits the rim and NOT upon release of the ball. OVERTIME The team that scores the first five points wins. There is no time limit (no clock) during overtime and no time-out is allowed. A team/player that mistakenly calls a time-out during overtime will be assessed a technical foul, awarding two free throws and ball possession to the opposing team. UNUSED TIME-OUTS Unused time-outs in the first half cannot be carried over into the second half. CONTESTING A CALL Only the team captain or his designee can contest a referees call. UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT The following unsportsmanlike conduct are sufficient grounds for a technical foul without any warning: throwing the ball or any object into the court; threatening or intimidating players, officials, timer/scorer or spectators; persistently arguing or complaining to the refs; intentionally elbowing or intending to hurt others; use of obscene language or gesture; directing extreme anger at anyone; questioning or disparaging the integrity of the League. Working Committee of the Day (WCD) There are always two members of the LAFBL Working Committee every Sunday that the referees can consult for whatever concerns or questions they may have. The WCD decides whether to delay a game for a few minutes or not.
