VoterInformationandthePrimariesTUESDAY,February21 VoterID:VoterIDbecamelawJune2011.AsnearasIcandetermine,andinbrief,thenewrulesforvoting atthepollsinclude: OnElectionDay,votersmustshowoneofeighttypesofphotoIDaWisconsinDriversLicense,aStateID, militaryID,orpassport.ThesephotoIDsarevalidprovidedtheydidnotexpirepriortoNovember2010.The otherfouracceptableIDsareaWisconsinDriversLicenseorStateIDreceiptfromtheDMV,afederally recognizedWisconsinIndianTribalID,aWisconsinaccrediteduniversityorcollegephotoIDwithproofof enrollment,oracertificateofnaturalization,andprovidedthesehavenotexpired.Anotherchangeisthat votersmustnowsignthepollbooknexttotheirnamebeforegettinghandedaballot.Also,afterreceiving yourballot,pleaseverifyithastwopollworkersinitialsatthebottom. Ihavereceivedseveralquestionsaskingmeaboutendorsements,whichIvemadeapracticenottodo. WhileIdontknoweitherGehlorSchwartz,Icansay,knowingAldermanTaylorasacolleagueonthe Council,andwhileSteveandIhavedisagreedonissues,hecertainlyisdedicatedandpassionateabouthis work. FranklinSchoolDistrictElectionResidentsresidingintheFranklinSchoolDistrictwillhaveachoicetovote fortwooutofsixcandidatesfortheFranklinSchoolBoard.Note:TheSchoolBoardisagovernmental body,whichisseparatefromthedutiesandlawsundertheCitysaldermanicandmayoralpositions. GarbageFeeNewtoyourtaxbill,youmayormaynothavenoticed,wastheseparategarbagefee.I votedagainstthisfeebecauseIvieweditasatrashywaytoraisetaxeswithoutyourknowledge.Placing thisasaseparatefeethenaddingthe$104backintoyourtaxtotalgivestheappearanceofadecreasein taxesandthatnothingchanged.Inreality,whatwaspreviouslyincludedinyourtaxbillisnowaseparate fee.Italsodecreasesaccountabilityforfuturegarbageandrecyclingcontractratesbecauseitisnolonger partofthebudgetcostsundertheresponsibilityoftheCouncil.
