Admission Criteria For GCE 'A' Level Holders To SMU

The basic requirements for applicants are:

Passes in at least 3 GCE A-Level subjects and General Paper A reasonable level of proficiency in a second language (at least a D7 grade for those with GCE A-Levels, or a pass in Chinese B/ Malay B/ Tamil B) An acceptable foundation in mathematics (at least a C6 grade in Additional Mathematics at GCE O-Level or equivalent) SAT I: Reasoning Test scores A personal interview (this includes writing a short essay prior to the interview) for shortlisted applicants)

A pass in General Paper is compulsory, as the grade for General Paper is considered a part of the overall evaluation of the applicant's suitability for admission. Those who do not excel in GP, but who have very good results in other subjects or show special abilities and achievements, may be considered for admission. If the applicant has taken 'S' papers at the GCE A-Levels, results should be included in the application. SMU will take them into consideration in the overall evaluation for admission. Applicants with good results in the GCE A-Levels will be considered for Advanced Standing at SMU. Students with Advanced Standing may be granted exemptions of up to 5 courses. Advanced Standing is only granted when a student has been offered a place and SMU has evaluated relevant academic certificates. Since SMU is cultivating students to become well-rounded individuals, it does not matter which stream you are from as long as you satisfy the requirements.
