Obamas Attacks upon the Catholic Church

Sometimes the most precious things in our lives becomes so routine and familiar that we either forget they are there, or more seriously, believe it is impossible that they will ever be taken away. Lifes most terrifying shocks is when they are. For instance, the death of a young child; the news of our immanent death through a ravishing disease; the permanent loss of hearing or sight or the decimation of a lifes fortune. Each jolts us like a bolt of high voltage electricity. These are dreadful moments, but moments that are possible just the same. Think of the abundant blessings we enjoy as citizens of our dear America. Dont all of us reflexively assume that we shall enjoy them forever? Like the North Star unfailingly shining above, so , the never ending presence of Americas bounty. Like God, wont they be here forever? Well, of course. It could be no other way. Entertaining any other outcome would be slightly ridiculous. Oh? But what if our seemingly impregnable freedoms started unraveling? Not overnight, but

over a very slow thousand nights. Stunned would be an understatement. It would seem like a dream. We would rub our eyes. Pinch ourselves. Splash cold water on our faces. This cannot be happening! Not to us! Not to America! There must be some misunderstanding! Until we realize there is not, and that we had this coming to us for some time now, through our lack of attention to detail, and a loss of our unyielding strength towards the protection of our American principles; our freedom! Catholics felt this way in the past few weeks. Quite casually, the Obama administration (actually, his nominally Catholic secretary of Health and Human Services quite an irony, that) disclosed that every institution in America that offers medical insurance would be required by law to cover contraceptives, abortifacients and sterilization procedures. No exceptions. Federal fiat was preparing to mandate a massive violation of Catholic conscience. Shivers went down the spines of Catholics. Never since the founding Fathers ratified the Bill of Rights had the Federal Government violated the freedom of religion clause in the

First Amendment. This was the first time. Even the most intellectually lazy Catholics found their jaws drop. From the time that the Puritans sailed for America to escape the persecution of the British crown, countless millions, sought America for freedom from religious oppression. Here conscience could breathe easily. Until now. Leftist elites wasted no time in jumping on the Obama juggernaut. They screeched that statistics proved that over 86% of Roman Catholics no longer follow the Churchs teachings on these matters. Take that! Moreover, the latest Gallop poll showed that 61% of the American people approved this new Obamacare provision. Once again, they scolded, Catholics were standing in the way of compassion. But this time the ususal traction of leftist boilerplate deserted them. The reliable oratorical legerdemain, which served them so well in the past, was burying them now. Every word they spoke put them at an even greater distance from ordinary Americans. Acceptance of the Churchs moral teachings was not the issue religious liberty was! Defiance of the Churchs teachings by her own is old as sin. But disobedience of

Catholic teachings does not translate to giving the government carte blanche to silence the Church from teaching. Enemies eager to muzzle her Divine voice are not new. From the time of Constantine it had been tried. But an American president trying it, this is new. Talk about rubbing ones eyes. Catholics couldnt quite believe what they were hearing. Catholics read enough of history to know that governments have persecuted the Church over the centuries. But here!? Though the jackboot on our throats bore the imprint of compassion, it was still a jackboot. But here!? This was deserving of Solzhentsyns pen. No gulags, to be sure, but worse, the slow drip, drip, drip of freedoms disappearance. Time has come for not just Catholics, but all Americans, to remind themselves that very bad things begin with very small things. It is no overreaction for Catholics to react, and to do so with all Americans bold and loudly. It is wholly proper and fully responsible to ask, what next? The Obama Administration has led the biggest onslaught to Americas freedoms in the history of our country, with record breaking

new rules, regulations and red tape. Demanding that each citizen purchase health insurance or pay a fine if not, the first time in our history we do not have the freedom to make our own decisions about our health. An administration who deems the free enterprise that has made America so rich and prosperous more so than any civilization that ever existed to be incompetent, and chooses to pick the winners and losers of industry on their own terms. The list goes on. The effects will be long term, and will not be felt until long after this president is out of office, because this is how economic policies work, and any economists can tell you this is fact. Catholics are not being grandiose to set before themselves a critical question: What must we do to save our Church from the bare knuckled intrusion of government? Americans also must set before themselves an even more critical question. What must we do to save America from a betrayal of her glorious heritage? Not forgetting the lessons of prudence, we know that these answers will not come tomorrow, even less, their gradual fulfillment. But beginning tomorrow we must

give them grave consideration, lest when we look for tomorrow, we find it has been stolen. All we need do is to look toward the blueprint our glorious founding Fathers left for us, and rid our land of freedom from all the policies set forth in which has tarnished their dream. If we do our duty as citizens, which requires attention to detail and a simple history lesson, we shall find that those slow thousand nights are already among us. We must pinch ourselves, splash water over our faces, wake up, and act before the dream of America will be just that, a dream and nothings else but grey shades of what it used to be. Christ expects us to act. And acting shocked is no longer enough.
