Happy Family Day

Once again, our secular, agnostic society has given us Catholics a nudge in the ribs and reminds us of a very important truth. Our Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGinty, a Catholic, has reminded us Catholics, and our secular society as well, of a very important teaching of Jesus, namely the importance of the family.

But modern society, with the high profile immoral lives of the cinema world of Hollywood, is attacking and undermining the family, its values and its God-given foundations. Selfless and self-giving love has been replaced by pleasure-seeking, selfish lust. Life-long commitment and mutual support have been replaced by serial monogamy, polygamy, homosexuality, same-sex arrangements, divorce, infidelity. The social Paul Bryce committee from Our Lady of Peace graciously donated Grand Knight $300 to our council, and our council decided to take this and donate it to St. Francis Tables building fund. Many thanks to Our Lady of Peaces Social Committee for their hard work, Lara Perlas for her help in the kitchen and serving, Michael Doerig for taking control of the kitchen and organizing all the work, and the rest of my Brother Knights who helped. A special thanks to Joan Grima for all her hard work, and also Joe Grima for his behind the scenes work. Our next event is a pancake breakfast on Sunday, February 26th at St. Gregorys Parish. If you havent yet been out to help with one of our cooking functions, this might be one that you can help with. The fun and camaraderie that is shared between us is amazing, and sampling the food before it is served ensures that our finished product is of the utmost quality.

Cardinal Thomas Collins!!! Most gracious joyful congratulations to His Eminence Cardinal Collins who was elevated to the College of Cardinals the weekend of February 18-20, 2012.
His Eminence will be a Cardinal Priest and will be continuing his daily tasks in running the Archdiocese of Toronto, and he will also be in charge of the oldest Irish parish in Rome conveniently called St. Patricks Church which has been around since the 1800s serving the Irish community of Rome in Italy.
