The culture of Malaysia is quite varied and sees influences from other cultures as well .Family life is of utmost importance and holds a strong place when it comes to the culture of Malaysia. The Malay culture is native to Malaysia. The culture of Malaysia sees a healthy mix of various people such as the Malay, the Chinese and even the Indians. Malaysia also offers loads of things to do and beautiful sights to see and one can notice that the culture of Malaysia is as beautiful as this land. Although the Malays found throughout Southeast Asia, the majority of ethnic Malays live in Malaysia. Making up half the population, the Malay share the country with Chinese and Indian minorities.The ethnic of Malays are mostly muslims. Since much of Malaysia is covered by jungle, the Malay settle along the coast, rivers and roads. Many Malays live in reserved sections which maintain much of the traditional characteristics of the kampung. The Malaysian culture also includes the Chinese and they were known to have adopted the Malaysian culture since the ancient days.The Chinese therefore are the second largest group out here. The Chinese have set foot in Malaysian soil since 18th Century that they came to Malaysia from China to work the booming tin industry. Within the Chinese community, many different dialects. Besides being the second largest race in Malaysia, the Chinese are known for their colourful customs and traditions. The Indians are the third largest group of people that form a major part of the

Malaysian culture. The Indians had always visited Malaysia since the ancient days. Originating from Southern India, most Indians practise Hinduism and speak Tamil or Hindi. Most of their customs and traditions are intricately tied with their religion. Hence, during the Hindu festivals such as Deepavali, Indians will perform colourful rites and visit temples. Many Indians are involved in the business sector, especially in restaurants. Thus we see how different races have formed a part of the culture of Malaysia. The unity in diversity can be seen in the celebration of various festivals by all the races. Malaysia is a country of multi-ethnic society practising multi-culturalism and multi-religion. Each ethnic group practises its own religion and belief which means various festivals are celebrated throughout the year. Some of these festivals are public holidays. Malaysia, with its mix of ethnic races which include Malays,Chinese, Indian and others, features a colourful potpourri of cultural traditions. Major festivels of Malaysia include Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Muslims celebrate the first day of Syawal which is the tenth month of the Muslim calendar with joyous enthusiasm. This is a major festival for Muslims and they usher in the day with prayers in mosques and remembering Special festival dishes are served for festivals and friends during "open house". Another most important festival is the Chinese New Year by the Chinese community and it lasts for a full two weeks! Chinese New Year is the time when spirits are appeared and offerings are made to Gods. Guests and the unmarried youngsters are given Ang Pows - gifts of money enclosed in little red

packets. As for the Indian,they celebrated Deepavali.This is a Hindu festival of light. Deepavali is a major festival of the Hindus and on the eve prayers are held both at home and in the temples.Hindus take a traditional oil bath in the early hours of the morning on Deepavali day and after prayers entertain their friends and guests to "open house. The word Selamat Datang! Expresses how a Malaysian would welcome someone to his or her home. Welcome! This is an introduction to food and culture in Malaysia, with recommendations for basic cooking tools and ingredients. One of the awesome food to eat is the Malay food.It is strong, spicy and aromatic, combining the rich tastes of the many herbs and spices commonly found in Southeast Asia. Malay food is the most commonly available as they are after all, the biggest race in Malaysia. Choosing what type of malay food to eat is not that difficult when someone is in Malaysia.There are some of the popular dishes to select include Nasi Lemak,Satay and even Roti Jala which are commonly found in stalls,food courts and restaurant.Nasi lemak ,a dish so popular, even the Chinese and Indians serve their own similar version. Another unique Malaysian food is the appeal of Chinese food and its vast menu. For example, there are countless variations revolving on one simple theme of noodles. Give it a little gravy and some salted anchovies, its called Pan Mee; fry it over a flaming wok with some soy sauce and it becomes Char Keow Teow; marinate the noodles in rich oil with prawns and its called Hokkien Mee; the list goes on.

Indian food is commonly enjoyed by all Malaysians in restaurants and more popularly, Mamak stalls, which are bare-back al fresco restaurants on sidewalks and street corners. One of the most preferable Indian food that is common to all Malaysian is the Roti Canai. A favourite for breakfast, Roti Canai is the ultimate in simplicity and taste and served with dhal, chicken or fish curry.There are many variations on the same theme that include putting in eggs to make it Roti Telur, sardines to make it Roti Sardin, bananas to make it Roti Pisang and so on. Malaysia has a wide range of tourist attractions. The sheer diversity of tourism destinations is astounding. These include the high-tech city of Kuala Lumpur, tropical island of Langkawi, colonial hill stations of Genting and Cameron Highlands, numerous pristine beaches, National Parks, and the world's oldest tropical rainforests. Malaysia has the potential of catering to tourist of every hue and it truly lives up to its tag line of Malaysia Truly Asia. Malaysia culture is characterised by its multiracial traditions and colourful past. Whilst here, dont forget to visit the Cultural World Heritage Sites. It will greatly enrich someone vacation in Malaysia. Melaka and Georgetown Penang are the most complete historical examples of multi-cultural colonial cities. On a shoestring budget? Dont worry. There are excellent budget and backpackers hotels in Malaysia all the way up to high quality 5 star hotels and resorts. Eventually, many have made Malaysia their favourite holiday destination. It is easy to see why. The splendour and diversity of Malaysia is simply irresistible.
