Pembrokeshire County Wedding Fair
T
HE Pembrokeshire
County Wedding Fair
was initiated by a
small group of
businesses from the wedding
industry and the Pembrokeshire
Agricultural Society.
It was felt that something bigger
was needed to offer more choice
to local couples. It is a chance to
show to show that you could get
everything you need for a
wedding/civil ceremony or other
big celebration from
Pembrokeshire and its borders.You
can shop locally. Held twice a year
the fair has moved from the Pavillion
to the larger Brithdir Hall and the
aim is to always have at least at least
100 stands.
As the event is run by volunteers,
the price for stands is kept to a
minimum allowing for a wide range
of businesses: small and large, new
and established. With 100 or more
stands, you will need to set aside
some time for your visit. With this in
mind, there are refreshments
available: tea and coffee from the Paul
Sartori Foundation caf, and also pig
roast rolls from Ken Davies, of
Crymych, all supporting the local
hospice at home charity.
Entry is free, with a 300 entry
prize draw to be spent with an
exhibitor/exhibitors. This March, the
sponsor of the prize is Newport
Links, a coastal wedding venue in the
north of Pembrokeshire.
The Pembrokeshire County
Wedding Fair is proof that if you
want to have your wedding in west
Wales and support local businesses,
you have a wide choice of services to
suit a broad range of budgets and
styles, from formal to quirky.
You will find practically everything
needed for a perfect day, even
mothers and guests are not
forgotten. The exhibitors may even
surprise you with things that you
havent thought of!
If you are organising a different kind
of celebration: eg. an anniversary or a
birthday, you may also find the
wedding fair useful.

1. Always get a proof (a sample print)
of your wedding invitations from the
stationer or printer before giving the
go-ahead to have them printed up.
Check through the proof very
carefully to ensure there are no
printing errors and that times and
venues are correct.
2. Make sure you have more items on
your wedding present list than you
have wedding guests. It can be
awkward if you get the same present
from two or more people. It also
allows for gifts from people who
cannot attend.
3. Always keep a constantly updated
list of whos coming to your wedding
in case of changes. Make sure these
have several contact numbers for
each person like home and work
numbers so that you can make
quick, pain-free re-arrangements. If
you have a computer, try keeping all
the wedding details on file so it can
be quickly updated and printed off.
4. A good map with well thought out
and clear instructions is an absolute
must to ensure that everyone arrives
on time.
5. Order of Service sheets at church
weddings can be easily overlooked
and often become part of the last
minute rush. This is a shame, because
it can act as a permanent memento of
your day. Make sure you have one for
every guest plus a few extra to hand.
6. In the post-wedding day rush, it
may escape your mind to send out
thank you cards. If you want them
done in the same style as your
invitations, they should be ordered at
the same time.
7. Double check details with your
photographer. Once you have gone
through the business of booking a
photographer, ensure that you send
them your requirements in writing
and get a confirmation slip from
them. Remember: Never make
assumptions about the service that is
provided. Ask, ask, ask.
8. If you are having a video made,
check with your minister that the
service can be filmed. Most are
agreeable, but some object to having a
video of such an important ceremony.
9. Ask to see the car you will be
going to the ceremony in. Being told
that it is a vintage Rolls Royce,
however impressive that seems, is not
enough. You should check to see how
the car has been maintained, make
sure there is enough room in the
back for the bride and her dress and
make sure it is in a colour you like.
10. Ensure that the church, register
office or hotel dont mind handfuls of
confetti being thrown around their
entrances. Some might prefer you to
use rice or sugar paper. A simple
check will avoid any bad feeling.
ORGANISING a wedding is a mixture of fun,
frustration and ruthless military planning.
There are some things which, if forgotten,
can easily be rectified. There are others which
can cause endless problems.
Here is a list of small but vital ingredients for
a successful wedding which might just escape
your attention and cause chaos if they do.

THE rule on the wedding invitation list is that it
falls to the family of the bride to draw up the list,
then offer the grooms family a 50-50 split. But its
their call.
If one family is much larger than the other, or the friends
of the bride far outweigh the friends of the bridegroom, a
friendly compromise needs to be reached taking into
account the space available and/or budget.
The invitations should be sent out up to three months
before the wedding, but no later than six weeks before, so
the guests can free up their diary for the day (or plan
their trip if to get there involves a lot of travel).
If children are not included in the invitation it should be
taken as read that they are not invited.
It seems a bit harsh but many bridal couples dont like
the idea of a group of young kids charging around or
screaming during the service or reception. Its their day
after all so respect their wishes. If in doubt ask.
If you want to be very traditional, an invitation should be
sent to the grooms parents, the presiding clergyman, rabbi
etc and their wives, if applicable.
Invitations
11. Dont forget your luggage. If you
are going straight off on honeymoon,
then dont forget to pack your
luggage properly. This takes thought
and effort at the best of times, but
when you are also getting married
things can be overlooked. Double
check those three essentials: passport,
money and tickets!
12. Make sure that your hotel or
restaurant has a suitable cake stand (if
needed) and cake knife available. If
not, bring your own. After all, you
wouldnt want to be photographed
posing with a steak knife over the
cake!
13. Before booking a reception at a
hotel or restaurant, try the food for
yourself. A nicely laid out menu does
not guarantee good food, and its a
good excuse for some meals out.
14. Almost as important as the
quality of the food at your reception
venue is the availability of parking,
especially if the reception is held a
long distance from the ceremony.
Dont forget to check the car parking
facilities before you book and make
sure that, at the time of your
reception, the car park wont be full
of cars attending another event.
15. Dont forget to enjoy yourself. If
little things go wrong, dont worry
this is your special day so there
should be plenty of people around to
put things right. Relax, have a good
time and enjoy the start to your
married life.
Dont forget
to enjoy
yourself.
If little things
go wrong,
dont worry
this is your
special day.

Every bride
wants to look
beautiful on
her big day -
with hair and
make-up just as
important as the
perfect dress.
All made up for her big day
FOR most brides it is a case of
wanting to look naturally beautiful on
their wedding day so heavy, over the
top make-up is a big no no. But you
dont have to stick to boring browns
and beiges and a little colour can be
very special.
This seasons in colours include
yellow and green, which while
sounding dramatic can be very
flattering providing they are mixed and
blended.
Wearing white can be very draining
for some colourings, so its important
to plan well ahead what make-up you
should be using.
Look through magazines to find the
kind of look you want to achieve and
discuss it with whoever you are
choosing to do the make-up on the
day.
If youre saving cash, it could be a
friend or family member whose
know-how is spot on, but theres
nothing like a professional who knows
what theyre doing.
Opt for a trial session and take along
picture examples of what you like it
can be hard to explain in words the
exact look youre after and an image
says it all.
A trial session also means you can
experiment and avoid mistakes
when it comes to the day. What
you think looks great on a
model or celebrity in a picture
just may not work on you.
Wedding make-up needs to
endure a lot, from all the
kisses and good wishes to
heat of the disco lights and
late night dancing.
Water and smudge proof
products will help avoid
accidents through the day and
avoid heavy cream foundations
that will rub off.
Keep tissues on hand for
emergency repairs through
the day. A dont forget the
bridesmaids should
complement the
brides look,
so work
together
for a
beautiful
result.

Be a good bridegroom
WHILE convention dictates that
it is the female of the species
who is expected to have a
thorough understanding of how
to plan a wedding, that doesnt
mean men can sit on the
sidelines.
TV show Dont tell the Bride has
proven that while many men may
remain clueless about what to do,
just a little thought and imagination
can reap huge rewards.
This is a day for both the bride and
bridegroom, so all big decisions
should be shared and ground rules
set for what both want.
The to do list itself may be long and
planning a wedding is a hugely
stressful time for all involved,
particularly the bride.
Pressures to make it the perfect day
can often lead to doubts and worries
and it is the bridegrooms job to
support the bride all the way.
A customised wedding dress can
take up to a year to get right with
tweaking and finishing touches right
to the end. Brides will be filled with
excitement and energy during the
initial planning but soon the stress
may set in. Be prepared to be
supportive and understanding.
Stress levels will be rising even as
much as nine months before the big
day. Relatives, friends and colleagues
will all be giving their advice. Be
prepared for doubts over choices
made including the cake, menus,
wedding party, venue and even theme
if there is one.
Even when most of the elements
are under control, it may not
necessarily feel that way.
A well-timed reward such as a
romantic night out or trip away, or a
special gift nothing to do with
weddings, would not go amiss every
now and then.
Three months before the day
expect the emergence of Bridezilla
this is a very stressful period. Be
available to help with chasing
suppliers and guests for replies and
offer assistance.
Ensure you have also carried out all
the traditional bridegroom tasks that
may be required, if not done as a
couple, including organising wedding
day transport for not only the bride
and yourself but also the wedding
party.
Of course there are also the
speeches and vows to prepare if you
are writing your own, but the most
important role the bridegroom has is
to support his wife-to-be and ensure
you both can enjoy the day when it
comes.

YOUR wedding day is something you will remember for
many years to come.
Its a chance to get together with friends and family to celebrate a
union between two people who are committed to a life together.
Everyone has different ideas about what makes the perfect
wedding day, but whether you are looking for a traditional day with
big white dress, church and grand reception for hundreds of guests,
or a smaller intimate affair for close family only, planning and
organisation in advance is the key to a happy day.
There are plenty of places to find step by step guides and
information about how to plan your big day online, and a chat with
friends and family about their experiences will help you avoid any
pitfalls they may have come across.
Every bride wants to look beautiful on her big day and
photographs are often something people panic about.
A little planning in advance can help ensure you have the perfect
wedding photographs as a memento of your day.
The most important thing to think about is what type of
photographs you want and who to take them. Some wedding
photographers can be more expensive than others, but its
important to ensure the person you choose has the skills to get the
type of pictures you require.
Some people prefer traditional posed shots, while others are
looking for a relaxed natural feel to the moments captured.
When choosing a professional photographer ask to see examples
of previous weddings theyve covered, and find out what they
include in their price. Will they supply prints? If so what size? Will
they supply a disk or album?
In this day and age people are becoming obsessed with digital
images, but theres nothing like the feel of a beautiful photo album
to browse through that you can touch and that doesnt rely on
batteries or access to the internet! You can either put the album
together yourself, or some firms will supply them for you.
Dont overlook the fact photographers may have been to the
wedding/reception venue youve chosen in the past so might have
ideas of particular shots that could look good.
Make a list of what family photographs you require beforehand
and ensure you brief the photographer if you have specific
requirements or ideas for your big day.
And dont forget if people are arriving in special costumes or you
have a theme to warn the photographer in advance so they know
what to look out for.
If youre asking a friend to take photos, dont forget to brief them
on what you want and ensure theyre up to the job of producing
what you are expecting so no-one is disappointed.
Ask people to bring their own cameras and send you any pictures
or supply disposable cameras on the tables at the reception.
Someone is bound to capture an unexpected and delightful moment
that cannot be planned for.
A guest book or scrap book can also add to the memories of
your special day. Ask guests to write messages on slips provided.
These can be shaped or on special paper of varying colours to
match your theme and then glued into a beautiful album/scrap book
later to avoid worries over spillages or drunken messages.
A lasting memory of your wedding day is something you, and your
family, will treasure for many years to come.
