Every Child Can! Campaign Report on Training to ESAs by Sathish Training Date : 23 rd Nov 2011.

Venue : Thiruttani, AID INDIA office. Participants : 10 ESAs from all the content team. Trainer: Sathish The training started with the brief orientation about the campaign and plan. Then there was a group discussion about STD wise Skills expectation from government syllabus and the current situation in government school going childrens learning levels. ESAs were trained on the evaluation tools to evaluate learning levels of Tamil Reading and Maths skills for Std 3-5 children. Then we had a brief discussion about the common mistakes that children usually make when reading a para in Tamil and when they do subtraction in maths. Then I explained how to mobilize & approach community when we go for ECC campaign in villages and also discussed the things to be done at community. After the class room training, we went for a pilot filed visit. ESAs were divided into two groups and visited two villages. Pilot field visit ESAs went to Bommarajapuram and Sooriyanagaram villages at thiruttani. The campaign was started in village by meeting panchayat head. They explained about the project and got permission to test children from Std 3-5 in that village. After that they walked around the village, and selected children randomly to find out the learning levels of children. They also invited the parents and public to attend the meeting, after the testing to discuss about their childrens education. Nearly 20 to 25 people participated at the meeting. Meeting started with the introduction about the team and the reasons for coming to the village. Then ESAs shared the evaluation results i.e number of children who couldnt read a simple para and number of children who couldnt do simple subtraction in that village. Then, they explained the Govt expectation from Std 2 children and the current status. Before ending the meeting, ESAs asked the parents to write a petition about their childrens learning levels to the school. After the meeting they signed into the petition. Few parents volunteered to give that to School HM.

Action Plan All these 10 ESAs will go to one district to give campaign training to all the EBTs. Every month ESAs have to conduct campaign in one village in their respective blocks. EBTs will also conduct campaign in 2 villages in a month.
