Two-Day Course on Hazard and Operability Studies

HAZard and Operability (HAZOP) study is a well known Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) technique widely used to ensure comprehensive and systematic coverage of all the relevant areas in the initial design or change of a facility. During a HAZOP session, the review team scrutinize the design, looking for process deviations and assessing their impact. A HAZOP is normally performed during the detailed design of a new facility or when changes occur. Each study begins with the HAZOP team agreeing the guidewords proposed by the HAZOP chairman for applicability to the study. All deviations (e.g. no flow, high temperature etc) from the design intent are assessed. Causes and consequences are recorded during the sessions, independently of the existing safeguards. Course Content Day 1 Session 3 HAZOP Case Study 1 Session 1 Overview of Process Hazard Day 2 Analysis Overview of process safety management Session 4 HAZOP Methodology (Contd) Checklist, what if, HAZID, HAZOP, Risk Ranking LOPA, FMEA Role of HAZOP leader & Scribe Overview of Process Diagrams HAZOP Report Preparation Session 2 HAZOP Methodology Session 5 Case Study 2 Definitions: Deviation, Causes, Conseq uences , S afeguards , A ct ion/ Session 6 Case Study 2 Presentation and Recommendation. Review. HAZOP Table Learning Outcome: At the end of the course, participants will be able to: understand basic principles of process hazard analysis carry out systematic HAZOP study with minimal guidance from a HAZOP leader understand the process being considered appreciate various perspectives when looking at plant operation issues
