Franklin Graham said in a radio interview broadcast today he cannot support any candidate, Republican or Democratincluding President Barack Obama--who supports abortion and same-sex marriage. He is the son of the Rev. Billy Graham, one of the most influential and famous protestant ministers of the last century. The younger Graham made the comment in an interview with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins. Tony, there are the policies of the president and the administration that go against Gods teaching and, of course, thats abortion, Franklin Graham said in the interview. The Bible is very clear on this. And I cannot support the president or vote for him because of his support for abortion and same-sex marriage." To me, same-sex marriage is unraveling the institution of marriage that God gave. And it is against the Bible, it is against Holy Scripture, its against Gods instruction, Graham said. And so I cannot support any candidate -- and it has nothing to do with being a Republican or a Democrat. If a Republican takes these positions, Im not going to vote for them, and so I think Christians ought to understand this. Graham stressed the importance of the moral issues at stake today. We dont have a whole lot of choices out there. Weve got just a few, Graham continued. The moral issues to me are so important as a Christian for a candidate to actually oppose Gods standard and then to vote for that person, you are compromising, you are joining in with them. For me, I just have to draw a line in the sand. Im not going to support a candidate that supports abortion and same-sex marriage. Im not going to do it. Unfortunately, you know, the president is a nice guy," said Graham. "When youre with him, hes a very personable person. You cant help but like the man. I cannot vote for him because of these issues that go against Gods law and his standard. Later in the interview, Graham said, that Christian churches must do more to stand firm against some of the morally unacceptable policies being promoted by the government. Im a grandfather, Ive got grandchildren, and Im looking now at the world that theyre going to inherit, the world that theyre going to live in, and I shudder when I think about the changes that are taking place right now, Graham said. And churches and pastors are not speaking out. And I just hope that pastors will speak the truth, Gods word, and how these policies that are being administered right now, how theyre undermining the churches, how theyre undermining our faith and how its going to undermine the United States of America.
