Passage Personifier Passage is irrelevant and the speaker offers little explanation. 2= Passage is of some relevance and the speaker offers a bit of explanation. 3= Passage is of adequate relevance and the speaker offers some explanation. 4= Passage is relevant and the speaker offers good insight.

Paraphrasing Perfectionist1= Outline is incomplete and/or missing important events. 2= Outline is general and is missing important events. Main idea is weak. 3= Outline is complete, but is missing important events. Main idea is vague. 4= Outline is complete and well done. Main idea is insightful.

Connection Creator1= Connections are not strong and are nonsensical. 2= Connections make sense, but the speaker offers little explanation. 3= Connections make sense and the speaker offers some explanation. 4= Connections are relevant and the speaker offers a good deal of explanation.

Worldly Wordsmith1= Words are not defined or are not of appropriate difficulty. 2= Some words are defined incorrectly and are not of appropriate difficulty. 3= Words are defined and are of adequate difficulty. 4= Words are defined and the speaker explains them well.

Literary Luminator1= Literary device is incorrect or not identified. 2= Literary device identified is incorrect or does not illuminate the chapter in any way. Speaker does not explain its significance. 3= Literary devices identified are general and speaker does not explain their significance. 4= Literary devices identified are strong and add something to the understanding of the story. Speaker explains their significance.
