Update User Profile, Accept Membership Basics and Access All Resources in the New Experience

Last updated August 24, 2011 All Cisco Networking Academy (non-student) members who are associated with an institution that has been migrated must register again on Academy Connection and update their individual user profiles. They need to review and agree to the Membership Basics/Membership Guide where relevant to their role(s). After doing so, they can access all of the offerings found in the New Experience. This document provides step-by-step instructions with images for this procedure. 1. While you do have access to some of the offerings found in the New Experience, you will not be able to access all of the resources until you have completed registration. If you login to http://community.netacad.net and see a banner at the top of your screen like the one shown below, it means that you must register again. Click the words registration process to access the page.

The Action Required page gives you a link to the NetAcad Contact for your Academy. Review the information in the links on this page and then click Continue.

The Edit Profile Information page will be displayed with a request to review and complete the profile. Read through your user profile to review your information and make any needed updates. (Note: The Not Now button allows you to complete this step later. You can navigate back to this area on Academy Connection by clicking My Profile > Edit Profile Information in the upper right corner. ) The Login Information begins with Secret Questions. Select the question you prefer from the drop down menu and enter your personal Secret Answer in the field below. This information is used to verify your account and to prevent others from using it fraudulently. There will be at least two Secret Questions for you to answer.

Scroll down the My Profile page to the Personal Information area. Fields with a red asterisk (*) next to the description are required.

The next part of the Personal Information area contains fields for phone and fax numbers. The email address you use with the Cisco Networking Academy is already provided. It is important that you ensure the email is correct and current. Ensure that the date of birth field and the gender field are also correct.

Continue scrolling down this page to the Personal Profile section. Please select the entry for Employment Background and Education Background that is most appropriate for you.

Continue scrolling down this page to the Preferences section. Here you can select your time zone, and the date and time display format. Select your preferred language in which to view certain forms and other content. Some content is available in formats designed to be accessible to people with disabilities. If you require such access, select YES in the field below the language field. You can make your New Experience Home Page default to the Administrator view or the Instructor view. In the New Experience, there is a Public Page for all registered members. In the Display in My Public Profile fields, you can select the information youd like to show others who visit your Public Page.

Continue scrolling down to the Participation Opportunities Program Updates area. If you would like to receive messages from Cisco Networking Academy, click the Yes radio button. You determine what information you wish to receive by making your selections in the checkboxes. Read about the Program Feedback, Rewards and Recognition, Membership Directory, and Alumni Forums and Chat opportunities carefully. If you would like to participate, click any or all of the Yes radio buttons next to these descriptions.

Continue scrolling down the page to the Membership Basics area. This is where you will complete your registration.

10. Watch the Membership Basics Module by selecting the language you prefer from the drop

down menu. This will start the video.

The video will look like this when it loads. Click the Play arrow in the center of the screen.

This video has a control bar to that you can use to pause, play, adjust volume and set the window size. When you have finished watching the video, click Close X in the lower right corner of the screen.

After you have viewed the Membership Basics Module, click the checkbox to confirm.

11. Review the Membership Guide by selecting the language you prefer from the drop down

menu. This will activate the View link to the right of the language field. Click the View link.

The File Download window appears. You may choose to Open or Save this file on your hard drive. In this tutorial, the Open button is clicked.

The Cisco Networking Academy Membership Guide pdf file opens. The version is based on the language you selected. Review this guide and save it to your hard drive for later use.

After you have reviewed the Cisco Networking Academy Membership Guide, click the checkbox to confirm.

12. To complete the re-registration process, click the Save Changes button. (Note: In the footer, the words Academy Connection, Log Out, and Terms and Conditions are links.)

13. You are re-directed to your Academy Connection Profile Page, where you will see the New Experience Banner on the left side. Click Go Now in the banner.

14. You are redirected to the New Experience Login Page. Enter your Academy Connection Login and Password, and then click the Log In button. (Note: if you had already launched the New Experience in this same browser session, then you will need to Log Out by clicking sign out in the upper right hand corner and then closing all your browser windows. Next time you log in, you will see the New Experience Home Page and you will have access to all of the resources available to you there. The direct URL to the New Experience is http://community.netacad.net .)

15. You are redirected to the New Experience Home Page. Your page may have different links, based on the role or roles you fulfill. Many of the features will be familiar, but please take a few moments to explore the full range of new resources available to you as a valued member of the Cisco Networking Academy. Welcome!
