Santisi Imports
Quarterly Newsletter
We, at Santisi Imports, are concerned with importing only the best quality products. We find products that we like, see where the products are made, and form relationships with the producers. We only import high quality items from producers that we feel comfortable with. Santisi extra virgin oil is from the province of Messina -- near the toe of the boot -- in Sicily. Crafted from Sant'Agatese olives, this filtered extra virgin olive oil with green reflections features a delicate aroma with a slight taste of artichoke and hint of almonds. We find this to be sweet, grassy, herbaceous, medium fruity, with just a slight hint of pepper. The 2011 harvest Novello unfiltered extra virgin olive oil is now in stock. It is available in both 750ml and 1 Liter bottles. Quantities of this oil are limited. Once the oil is gone, it will not be available again until the next harvest in the fall. In 2005, we imported our first shipment of Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Oregano from Sicily. Since then, our product line has expanded to many items including pasta, balsamic vinegar, tomatoes, mineral water, colatura, and jarred vegetables for antipasto. We are the exclusive North American importers of Pastificio Vicidomini Artisan Pastas! Pastificio Vicidomini pastas come to us from Castel San Giorgio, near Naples, in Campania. This family business has been making pasta since 1812. Now the 6th generation is involved in crafting this high quality artisanal pasta. These pastas are made with bronze dies in the classic shapes of traditional Italian pastas and are well packaged in strong bags, adorned with a blue and white logo. The pastas are made with high quality semolina (certified organic) and mountain water and they are very patiently dried on site. The tagliatelle dries for three days while other shapes take up to five days to completely dry. We now sell 22 different varieties of Vicidomini Pasta. Our new shapes include festoni, lasagna, mezzi fischiotti, gnocchi sardi, and spaghetti. The Pomilia Spa, started in 1973 is area in the Sarno River plain between the urban areas of Naples and Salerno, and between the chains of the Lattari Mountains and the Monti Picentini - a fertile farming area primarily known for the cultivation of the San Marzano Tomato. Pomilia is perfectly integrated with the culture of the territory, where passion, tradition and agriculture blend perfectly. These tomatoes are grown in volcanic soil, therefore reducing their acidity.
