2 Annotation Lesson Plan (105)


Name: Kyle Redmon Class/Subject: ENG 103/105 Date: 2/22/12 -2/23/12 Student Objectives/Student Outcomes: Students will read and annotate Act 2.2 of Romeo and Juliet and discuss. They will also direct and perform the balcony scene. Finally, they will view the two film versions of the scene and reflect in writing upon the choices that they made versus those seen in the films. Content Standards: 1.C.4d Summarize and make generalizations from content and relate them to the purpose of the material. 1.C.4e Analyze how authors and illustrators use text and art to express and emphasize their ideas (e.g., imagery, multiple points of view). 2.A.4a Analyze and evaluate the effective use of literary techniques (e.g., figurative language, allusion, dialogue, description, symbolism, word choice, dialect) in classic and contemporary literature representing a variety of forms and media. 4.B.4b Use group discussion skills to assume leadership and participant roles within an assigned project or to reach a group goal. Materials/Resources/Technology: Overhead Projector, Act 2.2 Handouts, Franco Zeffirellis Romeo and Juliet, and Baz Luhrmanns Procedure: Day 1: 1. 2. Introduce Lesson. Recap yesterdays activities. Take questions. 5 min Divide into groups and pass out Act 2.2 sheets. Assign groups sections of the Balcony passage to annotate and direct. 5 min 3. Allow students the majority of the class period to work through the Balcony scene. 25 min 4. Share annotations as a whole class. 10 min

Day 2: 1. 2. Introduce lesson. Recap yesterdays activities. 5 min Ask for groups to perform their interpretations of the scenes (One for each section) 1 min 3. 4. 5.
