Question - Do you think NTO (National Tourism Organization) plays a useful role in tourism? Explain your answer. Yes I think NTO is playing a major role in tourism. Sri Lankan Tourism Development Authority acts as the apex body of Sri Lanka Tourism. SLTDA was created in 2005 and its goal is to promote Sri Lanka and tourism resources to the world. Developing the current market and creating new markets is a vital and the SLTDA is focused building market confidence ensuring profitability and developing investor confidence amongst various its various stakeholders. SLTDA is dedicated to seeing the Sri Lanka as the foremost tourism destination in Asia and is committed to working towards pleasing their key stakeholders including domestic and international travelers. y Tourism Development Project : Collaboration with world bank Sri Lankan Government has launched regional development program which will mainly looking at the Kapitiya, Tricomalee, Pasikudha and Arugambay. Research: SLTDA provides all the statistical date which is related to tourism. Standard and Quality assurance Tourism Marketing and Promotions Human Resource Development Community Development Community Relations Domestic Tourism MICE Tourism Identifying and developing tourist specific, unique products and services, formulating and implementing Tourism Development Guidelines Business Tourism Increasing Technological penetration in Tourism.

Promote sustainable development of tourism as a key sector of the economy for the economic and social wellbeing of the people Promote and reposition Sri Lanka in all relevant international markets and market segments Work towards delighting visitors (domestic and international) through effective and quality facilitation of access, accommodation and other services. Utilize new info-technology tools to enhance the effectiveness of tourism marketing and operations. Be catalytic in rallying the tourism industry to work as a team. Generate high yield, income, and employment and contribute to regional development. Work in close collaboration with all stakeholder sectors such as sports, arts, crafts, culture, environment, investment, trade, the media and communities.

We can emphasize SLTDA some of the SLTDAs ongoing projects are as listed; Regional Tourism Development project / Sustainable Tourism Development Project / Tourism infrastructure project, Ex: Deduwa Project. SLTDA not only acting as a single entity and it will work hand to hand with local and international organizations Ministry of Economic Development, SLITHM, SLITO, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and UNWTO are some of the examples. Tourism has been identified as industry which is capable of effectively driving the country's socio economic development. The program's vision for the tourism sector is to make Sri Lanka the foremost leisure destination in the South Asian Region.
