Him as President
Taft was the 27th President and spent four years in office 1909-1913, however after his term he was renominated but lost the race to democratic Woodrow Wilson. He wrote: I don't remember that I was ever President after his career changes. He believed that the power of presidency had been taken too far, so he exerted his power to a lesser degree.
His Accomplishments
Taft was committed to lowering tariffs, and when elected, he called Congress into a special session to this end. Congress succeeding in reducing the average tariff from 46 to 41 percent, but some special interest groups raised them a few times. Taft, the federal government for the first time began the regulation of the telephone and telegraph industries.
His Failures/Blunders
His first mistake was to hold a special session of the Congress to reduce the tariff. This move was not welcomed by many in the Republican Party, and they wanted Taft to stop the tariff reform. mistake was dismissing Chief Forester of the United States, Gifford Pinchot, who was also a friend of Theodore Roosevelt.
