HOW TO PLASTIC WELD A MOWER HOOD Item being welded is a John Deere 445 mower hood Cost of new hood 5 with out tax. Cost of material to fix hood less than with tax. I saved 0 using the plastic welder I used the mini-weld model 6 plastic welder 1. Set up work area. No combustibles near plastic welder. Well ventilated area. Use caution when using the welder it is hot and can burn you.Plug in the welder and set the heat level to preheat. Put the welder in the stand that comes with kit. 2. Take hood off mower. 3. Clean plastic parts with soap and water. 4. Put the plastic parts together using tape to hold in place until welded. 5. Check the part for a symbol (to find out what kind of plastic I was working with). Set the heat level on welder matching the plastic I was welding. 6. Working on the back side first. I started out making a v-groove where the break was. Tip: I used the side of the flat welding tip. 7. Now I put the welding rod in the v-groove and apply the welder (heat) to the area. Melt the base material and the rod together. Don't work on any more than 2 inches at a time. TIP: Let your heat do the work for you. 8. When you're done with the back side. Now start on the front side doing the same steps as above.

9. When finished welding. On the front you should have a slight mound where the break was at. 10. Now sand the weld down using rough sand paper. Then when almost flat go to a fine sand paper and smooth it out. Clean the hood. 11. Paint the hood .It may take more than 1 coat. Check paint for details on drying times. Sorry I forgot to grab my camera and take pictures for you. Anonymous February 20, 2012 at 2:20 am (Edit) John Deere mowers if made by John Deer are very good mowers but JD has licensed their name to a company that builds cheaper mowers. The cheap mowers will

have plastic covers over the blade pully spindles (and other parts) which is a dead giveaway as to the quality. The good ones are usually found in your agricultural supply places and the cheep one are found in stores like Aces, Home Cheapo, Lowsie, etc

Adam S February 14, 2012 at 9:12 am (Edit) Better buy on zero-turn mowers: John Deere for $2899 or comparable Toro for $2499? 42 mower deck. Toro has had zero-turns for a while. John Deere is in its first year of zero-turns. Should I pay a little more for John Deere or is Toro a better/equal mower? Is John Deere worth the extra money?

palmrose2 February 26, 2012 at 8:40 pm (Edit) Tell you what. Toro has been in lawn the bus. longer that JD. I dont know much about zero turns but I will tell you that Toro makes the absolute best walk behind snow thrower on the market. JDs as a brand arent bad but usually overpriced. Looked in to a Simplicity?

The Kidd February 25, 2012 at 1:48 pm (Edit)

If its sat for a while, before running it you shouldve gone over it, tune up, oil change, fuel filter so you wont have to do this all later. With the deck vibration, it sounds like somethings either loose or sticking did you check the deck out before putting it on? Like if the spindles turned freely, no blades were bent, ect. I hate to say this , but remove the deck and check it over- one bad bering will cause a vibration. Kidd

the Tino February 27, 2012 at 5:50 pm (Edit) How durable are John deere Lawn Mowers? Ever since I can remember, I have begged my dad to by a John Deere Lawn mower. From what I see, they never really break. I hear they are extremely durable. yet my dad has found a stupid excuse to get a troy bilt lawn mower. I am putting my neck out on the line for a John Deere, so I was wondering just how durable they really are.
