“St. Francis Xavier, a welcoming faith community lovingly sharing the gifts of God.”
PRAYERS FOR THE SICK: Palliative Care is that expression of care we extend to persons who are
challenged with the transition from life as we know it in this world to a life with God beyond death.
Palliative Care in essence is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy.
Our tradition of lifting up the needs of the sick and suffering in prayer is a wonderful way of seeking
God’s blessing in such a challenging journey. Our parish bulletin has provided us with an invitation to
do just that – to pray for certain persons who are sick and suffering. It can be difficult to ascertain at
times who should be listed here. One has to be aware “of personal feeling of privacy”, “duration of
an illness” and the natural process of human life called aging which does not always lead to critical
sickness. As well, some people’s illness is not due to physical sickness and so requires particular sensitivity.
Our request for prayers is not to be seen only as an information item about a person’s physical state or
health need.
Having said this – we at the parish office are challenged to make “good decisions” in this sensitive area
and do not sometimes meet some people’s expectations. If you have concerns about your interest in
this matter please speak to one of us, preferably the Pastor, so that we can address your concerns.
For the time being we will be inviting you to raise up in “your prayer time” the needs of those who,
connected to our parish family, are experiencing serious sickness.
Friday, December 12th: is the Feast of the Our Lady of Guadalupe, patron of all Aboriginal – First Nations
peoples. Our morning Mass will recall our responsibility to honour the faith expression of our Canadian
First Nations people. We will welcome a guest who will share with us a special welcome and final blessing.
