Review: Luvion Grand Elite Baby Monitor The Luvion Grand Elite is the latest, and possibly best, Digital Video Baby Monitor to hit the UK. Incorporating the most-wanted features of other leading Baby Monitors, it is simply one of the best appointed Baby Monitors yet. When first opening the packaging for the Luvion Grand Elite, it is clear this is a truly high-end product. The matte black finish of the coffin-style box has a luxurious feel, and a reassuring weight to it, and easily slides open to reveal the Baby Monitor, set in custom fit, black foam. At first glance, the feature that stands out immediately is the sheer size of the screen. At 3.5 inches, the Grand Elite has a screen equal to the largest screens available on Digital Video Baby Monitors, though no other manufacturer has shoehorned a screen that large, in to a parent unit so small; at a mere 16mm depth, the Luvion Grand Elite has the thinnest parent unit available today (making it extremely portable). Looks-wise, the parent unit is very minimalist, cast in white, gloss plastic, with the large screen dominating the front panel, and three buttons set in to the right of the facia: Menu, Scan, and a 4-way D-Pad which doubles up as the volume control. Running up the left side of the impressive-sized screen are six LED bars, invisible when not in use, which give a visual indicator of noise being transmitted from the Baby Unit. This is particularly useful when the volume is reduced on the parent unit, allowing it to be run effectively in complete silence. The rest of the controls for the Luvion Grand Elite are spaced down the thin outer edges of the parent unit, Giving a very clean look and finish to the product. These controls and features include 2-way Talkback, lullabies and nightlights on the Camera Unit (all being remotely controlled, which is a laboursaving addition). One thing that truly sets the Luvion Grand Elite apart however, is its amazing connectivity. As with Luvion's first Baby Monitor, the Luvion Platinum Digital, the Grand Elite can be connected to a television, which is particularly excellent when used in conjunction with Picture in Picture' viewing, available on most modern shows. This feature allows parents to maintain a watchful eye on their children, whilst not missing any of their favourite television. New and unique to the Grand Elite however, is the ability to input a Micro-SD card in to the Parent Unit, and record up to 16 hours of your baby's finest moments on to one Micro-SD. While this feature may seem superfluous, would it not be nice to have the option of capturing some of your baby's cutest moments? When setting up the Baby Monitor for the first time, it is clear that the Luvion Grand Elite was designed with plug-n-play in mind. The out of the box equipment included is at the optimum amount; all the wiring you could need, and none of the additional detritus that will end up cluttering up a drawer. Neatly packaged in the box are the essential power leads for both Parent and Baby Unit, a convenient charger dock for the Parent Unit (which doubles as a stand), the AV cable necessary for connection to a television, a user manual, and thoughtfully, the screws that will be required if the user wishes to wallmount the Camera Unit in the baby's room. From plugging in the Parent and Baby Units in their relative spots around the home; set up takes as long as flipping a switch. The included Camera Unit is paired with the Parent Unit straight out of the box, and takes a few seconds to achieve a connection, after which all functions are available. Adding extra Camera Units The Luvion Grand Elite can receive signals from up to four at a time is a very quick process, setting up the camera in the correct spot then selecting a menu option on the parent unit will pair the two together quickly. When receiving more than one signal at a time, the Parent Unit can be set to flip between the active cameras every few seconds, or can be manually switched between one camera and the other. Once your Grand Elite Monitor System is up and running, you will be pleasantly surprised at just how excellent the reception quality is. Video Baby Monitors in the past have suffered from either a low quality signal, or a low quality image from a poor screen size. Utilising encrypted digital technology for security and quality, the Luvion Grand Elite provides almost HD quality images, and the crispest audio available on a Digital Video Baby Monitor. In our tests, the baby unit was placed next to a radio in another part of the building, and the parent unit on a desk. Once the connection was achieved, it would be completely reasonable to believe that the radio was in our office, such is the quality of the transmission, and the speaker installed in the Parent Unit. Of course it would be impossible to discuss the performance of any Video Baby Monitor without testing it in low-light conditions this is when Baby Monitors get the most use. I read a lot of reviews for baby monitors, but not so much for bottle warmers. Theres so much mixed reviews on both these items, I dont know which to get. I have used a bottle warmer for about 5 months now ever since it became clear my baby would have to be a formula baby. I recently bought a new one, the First Years Night and Day bottle warmer. This is really cool b/c it is a warmer with a cooler in the back. The back part has an ice pack and you can put two bottles in the back part with the ice pack, and bring the whole thing into the nursery or place it by your bed. April 13, 2012 at 2:12 am That happens to be the monitor I have and I absolutely love it. I can see my baby when she sleeps. It has saved me many trips to her room worrying if something was wrong. She is now 13 months old. The best part is, I just had a second baby 3 weeks ago and when I put her in her crib I wont have to buy another monitor. Just another video that will hook up to the second channel on the actual monitor so all I have to do is switch channels to see my girls sleeping. Thats the one I would have recommended for you. Is there a place I can find a review of baby monitors before I purchase another one? What one do you have (brand specific) and are you happy with it? **My husband does not want one of the motion censors, and we were hoping to get one with two handsets although at this point wed take one as long as it worked well. May 4, 2012 at 8:19 am The Summer Night&Day is a pretty popluar one. its almost $200, but it has bad reception. Ialso have a used Fisher Price Sound&Lights that I bought for $5 and it works waaaaaaay better. I can actually go outside with it and I dont get interference. The Summer one gets interference almost everywhere in the house, and you can forget going outside with it. The screen is nice, ad I can see a lot of detail, but unless Im by the babys room its so annoying. It also interferes with my cell phone (I think they all do), but this one does it a lot, especially when Im using the web. It also only has 2 channels whereas the Fisher Price one has 10. It might be worth it for you to buy a Summer one used from Craigslist or something, because I dont think its worth $200 Reply

May 29, 2012 at 1:19 am I have a Tomy Walkabout Platinum Monitor. It cost me about 100 (18mths ago) but is well worth it. Its digital so no interference; Baby unit has built in nightlight which can be turned on / off with parent unit; Talk-back feature so you can offer reassurance if you dont want to go in to them (also v. handy for requesting help from partner downstairs such as bring me a bottle / calpol etc!) Both units tell you the temperature in babies room; You can record the time of last feed on parent unit so that you know when you last went in; Vibrating option if you dont want sound on and also noise activated lights so you can tell at a glance if theres any action! The Tomy careline are also fantastic I have had a couple of replacement bits and bobs (my own fault as we didnt pack it properly when travellng so it got damaged!) all free of charge and sent out very quickly. Theyre good with queries too! I cant comment on sensor pads but would say that maybe they would cause more panic than they resolve, and what happens if the baby wriggles to other end of cot? May 30, 2012 at 2:07 am I use Tomy walk about and it is great. I put my baby to bed during the day and go and sit at the other end of my garden and can still hear him as though he is next to me. Mine was on offer at Toys r us I got it for 19.99 but I think that it is normally 39.99. Shop around though for special offers dont just stick to one shop. Reply

Do you just mean without a cord or actually hooked up to a computer? I have been using Summer Infant Hand Held Video baby monitor for 6 month now and cant complain. It sees at night and has color. The monitor is hand held so you can carry it with you where you want to. At first the battery would last 3-4 days now it lasts 2 days, then you have to recharge, but it can be on when charging. I got mine on eBay at half the cost. If you still dont have your baby and dont need one ASAP. Start looking for deals. I got ours 2 month before the baby was born but it took me 4 weeks to get the deal I wanted. Im also using a wireless connection on my laptop and there is no interference with the monitor, its working perfectly fine. Also it does NOT pick up cell phones, radios or other babies. Reply

We are looking for a really good quality baby monitor and we want one that has nightvision (or infrared or whatever its called) Ive sen some that monitor the baby in the dark but most of them have LEDs on the camera. I dont want to shine a flood light on my baby at night. We just want something that works in the dark without a light. Can anybody recommend a good monitor? Thanks! ) Reply

I was looking at just a traditional monitor. I would like to spend under $50. Its hard to go by alot of reviews online because most people live in subdivisions with alot of activity.. I dont. I live in the boonies hah.. so maybe interference wouldnt be as bad.. Reply

May 31, 2012 at 4:39 pm I have the Graco Ultra Clear II Monitor with Nightlight. It was about $29 and Ive been using it for 10 months with minimal problems. It gets really good reviews considering its priced so low. Once or twice I have gotten a little static sound from it but it went away quickly and only came from the part I keep downstairs (basically the part that is upstairs with the sleeping baby has never had that problem). I do a lot of product research before I buy and it seems when it comes to non-video monitors even the pricey ones have problems. Reply
