Carlton Hobbs Announces Participation at TEFAF Maastricht March 16-25, 2012

New York, NY, February 27, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Carlton Hobbs LLC is delighted to announce that the company will be exhibiting at the prestigious TEFAF Maastricht Fair this year, March 16-25, 2012 and they are particularly thrilled to join the show as it celebrates its 25th birthday. They will focus on bringing new acquisitions with Royal or aristocratic provenances. One of these is an extraordinary and monumental giltwood frame, measuring over 12 ft (3.76m) in height and carved exuberantly with 'Savages' bearing standards and military regalia. It was executed by Paul Petit, one of the greatest carvers and gilders of the mid-18th century, for Frederick Prince of Wales in 1749, as evidenced by the recently discovered transcript of the original invoice. Petit's frames for the Prince of Wales are considered to be amongst the most spectacular and costly items of giltwood made during the Georgian era. They will also exhibit one of the most unusual pieces they have ever owned, the superbly carved and painted sleigh made circa 1750, which is said to have belonged to Maria Leczinska, wife of Louis XV, daughter of the King of Poland. The sleigh's excellent original condition is perhaps explained by the fact that, rather than racing in it on the ice, one of its owners, renowned designer and collector, Rose Cumming, used it as a sculpture in her New York residence. A further piece with aristocratic provenance is a most unusual painting of the Duchesse d'Uzes, who is portrayed atop a scaffold working on a monumental sculpture of Joan of Arc. The Duchesse was an immensely wealthy, talented and independent woman who was, "by turns, [...] an author, a sculptor, a chauffeuse, a grande mondaine, and an industrious mother." Other items included in the display will be the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Library Desk, latterly owned by the Dutch Royal family, a set of marquetry panels from the collection of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen and a pair of card tables bearing the monogram of the Woronzoff-Dashkoff family. The fair will be open March 16th - March 25th 2012 and we would be delighted to see you there. Do please let us know if you would like tickets.
