GRADE ELEMENTS Midterm Exams: There will be two in-class exams, and one final exam; exam dates can be found in the Course Schedule. Exams are closed book, closed notes. Please be prepared to put anything besides a pencil up in the front of the room. Homework: There will be 2 homework assignments during the semester, worth a total of 75 points. Homework due dates can be found in the Course Schedule. Each homework will have specific instructions that you must read and follow. You are responsible for following these instructions and you risk getting a reduced grade on the assignment if you do not follow them carefully. For example, your grade will be reduced if your homework is not typed your homework is emailed your facts are wrong or outdated your format is incorrect your source is inappropriate Late homework will receive 1/2 credit if it is turned in before the following class; otherwise no credit. On-line Reading Quizzes: On-line mastery quizzes will be posted approximately once a week; see the Course Schedule for due dates. Each quiz will cover the readings posted in the Course Schedule up to and including the quiz due date. Quizzes will OPEN approximately a week before the due date and CLOSE at 1pm on the due date. Your lowest quiz score will be dropped. Please make sure you check the due dates as these times are firm. You have two attempts for each reading quiz. There are no make-up quizzes. If you have computer problems, finish the quiz, then retake it. These quizzes are worth 10% of your grade, and much of the material will be part of the exams, so be conscientious about getting them done. Make sure you have the proper version of Java and that your pop-up blocker is disabled. If your computer is having problems, please contact ITS or Bugbusters. Computer malfunction is not a justification for missing a quiz. Clickers: Clicker questions will be a part of all classes; you will be awarded 3 points for a correct answer and 2 pts for an incorrect response. ALL CLICKERS MUST BE REGISTERED BEFORE THE FIRST EXAM (3/2/12) or you will receive a half credit. There will be NO make-up for class questions for clicker malfunctions, forgetting the clicker, etc. Your bottom 5 clicker scores will be dropped. EXTRA CREDIT Exams: Extra credit points will be given on exams. Stop by my office hours: All students who come by during my office hours and introduce themselves to me will get 5 extra credit points for their first visit. Please submit links/summaries to chen1000@colorado.edu

Professional courtesy and sensitivity are especially important with respect to individuals and topics dealing with differences of race, culture, religion, politics, sexual orientation, gender variance, and nationalities. Class rosters are provided to the instructor with the student's legal name. I will gladly honor your request to address you by an alternate name or gender pronoun. Please advise me of this preference early in the semester so that I may make appropriate changes to my records. See policies at http://www.colorado.edu/policies/classbehavior.html and at http://www.colorado.edu/studentaffairs/judicialaffairs/code.html#student_code .Classroom Behavior: In order to maintain a positive learning environment, students are expected to adopt appropriate behavior in the classroom.
