Problem: Human Trafficking

Human Trafficking is an act that involves recruiting, transporting, transferring, harbouring or receiving a person through a use of force or coercion. It is basically slavery. Statistics: 27 million people are in modern day slavery across the world. Between 700,000 to 2 million people are trafficked across international borders annually. (80% of these victims are women and young girls) The average age of entry into prostitution is 12-14. 50% of transport victims are children. 80% are women and girls. 70% of female victims are trafficked into the commercial sex industry, 30% are forced into labor. Examples (5): Sex Trafficking: Trafficking people into prostitution. In the US, the legal definition of sex trafficking includes the exploitation of anyone under 18 involved in commercial sex. Currently, Toledo, Ohio is the third largest sex trafficking city. Labor Trafficking: People are trafficked into work such as farming or becoming a servant. Giant corporations like Wal-mart and M&Ms have been accused of using child labor illegally to produce their goods. Organ Trafficking: People are trafficked to sell their organs for transplants. Even when this is voluntary, it is trafficking. Domestic Servitude and Forced Marriage: Domestic Servitude among women and children include violence and rape. (takes place in wealthy countries like Persian Gulf, Asia, France and the U.S.) Child Exploitation: This includes the use of children for the aforementioned purposes as well as illicit international adoption, recruitment as child soldiers, recruitment for cults, for use in begging, and for use as athletes. Audience: The traffickers, politicians (government), and the corrupt, wealthy elite Proposed Solution: History repeats itself so why not make slavery happen again? Just like sale of alcohol was legalized by 21st amendment, human trafficking industry should be legalized and regulated by the government because trafficking industry will exist in underground market anyways even if it is prohibited. The government should encourage the companies by providing incentives like tax exemption and high import tariffs. Develop marketing strategies such as catalogues or online website in order to facilitate the trafficking sale, then impose high tax on the business transaction. Implied Benefits (5): cost of law enforcement is lowered higher tax money could be spent on other social welfare programs (Medicare, medicaid) or on paying off national debt unemployment goes down because more jobs are created

Increased happiness for the wealthy elite as they have more forms of entertainment Increased standard of living for the workers in the industry as they are better off as slaves with a master than hobos or starving children the wealth of the top elite class would trickle down to the poor people, thus closing the gap between the social classes Stated benefits (3): Less criminals because trafficking is no longer illegal more government revenue through taxation higher productivity for the country great source of entertainment for the wealthy class the hopeless children such as the homeless and orphans can be saved from their hardship by the wealthy great financial investment that will pay off more than its cost economically in the long run Dismissed Idea #1: Having retail stores is not a good idea because it is worse than having a online market, which has the low, almost zero, cost of maintenance of the slaves for sale display, does not take up unnecessary space, and requires less amount of effort for customers to pick up their new goods. Dismissed Idea #2: It is better for the government to impose high import tariffs than to provide subsidies to the human traffickers because the domestic market for slaves will be protected against the much cheaper slaves from abroad. Possible Objection #1 Violation of human rights Rebuttal: Because slaves should not be looked in the same way as other members of society, the slaves do not have equal human rights as those of higher social class. They do not contribute to or benefit the society anyways in the first place. In fact, most would grow up from young age to damage our society by committing crimes later in life. Possible Objection #2: Rebellion and war due to tension between social classes Rebuttal: Cases of rebellion and war would be rare because the trafficking industry would be strictly regulated and advocated by the government through mass propaganda and cruel punishment for any protester. Rebellion can easily be oppressed by denying the slaves the right to educate as well as right to free speech. The young generation belonging to the higher social class will be brainwashed to feel no sympathy towards the slaves. Explanation of Ad Campaign: The targeted audience are government officials and traffickers because their ignorant attitude towards the victims of trafficking industry should be criticized and changed. The advertisement will contain message that satirically supports and encourages human trafficking

Realistic details will be used in order to give an air of seriousness and credibility. Shocking images of young children for sale would be placed in order to gain public attention for the issue. The goods will be made to look glamorously luxurious so that the wealthy people are attracted. Written Explanation of the Satirical Nature of the Ad: The satirical nature of our advertisement is created through paradoxical message. Although the hidden message, the truth of the advertisement is to mock the traffickers and politicians for their inhumanity in order to stop human trafficking, the advertisement endorses selling of child labor and sexual exploitation through shocking images. This irony is achieved partially by the colorful decorations included in the picture. Despite of the seriousness of the issue and dismal faces of the children, the cheesy flowers and heart send an inappropriate feeling of happiness to the viewers, implying that while the majority of the population are against trafficking, they move on with their lives happily without really caring about the these children. The low dollar amount of these children for sale, not to mention the discounted ratio, further exaggerate the worthlessness of the trafficking victims to the eyes of selfish politicians who, rather than take immediate actions, wait until their chance of reelection is at risk and the cruel traffickers who seek to benefit from the agony of others.
