Q. Dr. Stricker what is your computerized axial traction machine and can it help my back or neck?

CHIROPRACTIC / ACUPUNCTURE

candidate for this treatment after doing an orthopedic examination. I do not need but do find it beneficial if a patient has an MRl so we know exactly what we are dealing with. If you have any questions regarding this procedure feel free to contact my office.

A. Computerized axial traction is also known as a decompression table. This piece of equipment is a traction table with a programmable computer which cycles intermittent traction to stretch the intervertebral discs and facet joints in a patient's neck or low back. This machine is typically programmed for Raymond Stricker approximately a 15 minute treatment with 40 seconds D.C. FIAMA, Dipl. of stretch and 20 seconds of relaxation between each cycle. The goal is to take pressure off of any nerves AC LLC that maybe pinched by a disc. The goal is to also help open up the intervertebral disc spaces, as well as open up the facet joints. I have been using decompression therapy in my practice for approximately 9 1/2 years and have gotten good results with many patients. This table works excellent for patients with mild and moderate disc bulges in their neck or back, and may offer some relief for patients with moderate to severe disc bulges. This table is also very helpful for patients with facet syndromes and may offer some relief for people with other injuries to their back. I typically determine if a patient is a good

Hail Damage The weather conditions at this time of the year can generate hail storms, and hail can cause serious damage to any vehicle. Our customers often ask two questions about hail damage: first, is hail damage covered by my insurance; and second, how do we go about repairing this damage? Hail damage falls under the comprehensive portion of an insurance policy. Comprehensive Ed Gerstner covers issues such as hail, theft, vandalism, fire, and acts of nature that are beyond your control. Most insurance companies will not hold these losses against the policy holder when establishing future rates. As far as repairing hail damage, we would go over the car thoroughly and identify every dent. Depending on the severity of the dent, we would use one of two repair processes. Less severe dents could be repaired using a paintless dent repair process, where we would actually work the dent out without having to break the paint. However, more severe dents will need to be repaired the conventional way repairing and painting the damaged area as required. In either case, Randy Lane's Auto Body, Inc. will effectively handle this type of claim for you.

AUTO COLLISION

Q: Dr. Ringel, what is astigmatism?

OPTOMETRIST

A: Astigmatism means the eye has an asymmetrical front lens curvature rather than a perfect round shape. As a result uncorrected astigmatism may cause blurred and distorted vision. An Michael F. Ringel, O.D. astigmatic eye requires a special dualpower lens to focus light evenly. Approximately 85-90% of all individuals wear an astigmatic correction in the form of glasses or special contact lenses. At my office here in Harrison you will find our personal approach in handling this and other types of vision problems is unsurpassed.

Q. I will be traveling this spring and will be taking a few 3-6 hour flights. I have heard long flights can cause blood clots, what should I do?

PHARMACIST

A. Any type of travel can be tough on your legs because of cramped seating. Confinement for long periods of time in a plane, bus, train, or car does not allow you to Jeff Biddle stretch your legs. Movement of the legs is important to help circulate blood back to the heart. During long trips without exercising or stretching your legs, you may notice swelling, discomfort or pain in your legs, ankles and feet and can even cause a condition called deep vein thrombosis or DVT. DVT involves the formation of blood clots in the deep vein system. Blood clots develop when blood "pools". due to inactivity, show moving blood tends to clot naturally. Move around while traveling if possible and wear graduated hosiery to help reduce the risks and discomfort associated with traveling related circulatory problems. We carry these in our pharmacy. Stop in and ask about them.

Q. I own a small business and want to do some advertising in 2011, but I don't really even know where to start. A. Yours is a very common problem, so many small businesses do nothing, which of course is a mistake. First you should decide on a budget by month. You must know who your target customers are and where they are. Next contact local media outlets, examples would be your local newspapers, local radio etc. They will give you many ideas and options working within your budget. Please give us a call today to learn more about how we can help boost your sales this year. Register Publications advertising representatives will be happy to help you work out a plan, create some ads and answer any questions you may have. There is no additional charge for these extra services. Give us a call and let us help you get started on a prosperous 2011.

Q. Do I need to file a tax return this year? A. You are required to file a federal income tax return if your income is above a certain level depending on your filing status, age, and the type of income you receive. However, some taxpayers should file even Darren Bowman, CPA if they arent required to because they may get a refund if they had taxes withheld or are eligible for refundable credits. The filing threshold for most individuals is the sum of the applicable personal exemption amount plus the applicable standard deduction amount. These amounts vary based on filing status and age. Some of the more common refundable credits are the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit, the American Opportunity Credit for education expenses, and the Adoption Credit. If you have any questions concerning whether you are required to file a tax return, please give us a call.

Q. What happens if Congress doesnt pass a budget this year?

MONEY MANAGEMENT

ADVERTISING

A. For 3 years, America has been budgetless. Currently, the Senate is debating whether to even vote on having a budget. So why arent Americans concerned? Big numbers seem confusing. Last year, the federal budget was $3.82 trillion ($2.17 trillion paid with taxes and the remaining $1.65 trillion borrowed). Roger Ford However, after a long debate, because the US has outstanding debt of $15.3 trillion, we only cut $3.82 billion (that is billion with a B, not trillion with a T) in spending last year. Lets simplify both rhetorically and mathematically. We have a family spending $38,200/yr. The fathers annual income is $21,700. Every year, the family adds $16,500 in credit card debt. One day, the father wants to set a budget and asks the wife and kids to cut back on spending. The wife tells her husband to get a second job. After a long debate, even though they have credit card debt of $153,630, they decide not to set a budget and to only eliminate the cable bill of $385/yr. Simply, thats the argument. One side wants the dad to keep working more (raise taxes), while the other side wants the family to cut the spending. In the end, the family adds another $16,115 of credit card debt, and the US adds another $1.65 trillion! How is all of this government spending affecting your retirement dollars, and what can you do to protect yourself? Call us for a complimentary appointment to discuss your individual retirement needs.

Sump Pump Maintenance Here are some quarterly and annual maintenance tips in caring for your sump pump: Every three months: 1. Clean the pump inlet screen. 2. Check the power cord and make sure the cord is connected to power. 3. Pour a bucket of water into the sump to raise Roger Ford the float and make sure the pump turns on, adjusting the float if required. At least once a year: 1. Remove the pump from the sump to inspect and clean it. 2. Clean out the sump. 3. Oil or grease the bearings if required by manufacturer. 4. Check the electrical cord 5. Pour water into the sump to raise the float and adjust if needed. Also a good idea is installing a secondary battery back-up sump pump in case of a power outage. These steps can help in avoiding a costly water loss under your homeowners insurance. Call us, your local independent insurance agent for your insurance needs.
