NUTRITION SERVICES: So much more than a meal

The Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging nutrition program offers hot, healthful, nutritionally-balanced meals to both our senior center and home-delivered meals participants. Meals are designed by a registered dietitian to meet one-third of the recommended dietary allowance of nutrients. Senior Centers: In addition to our Center, there are over 30 Senior Centers located throughout the five-county area. These facilities serve as resource centers in neighborhoods and rural communities. Each center hosts many recreational, social, and health education activities. Participants make reservations by noon the business day prior to the meal they wish to enjoy. They are asked to contribute toward the cost of the meal. Menu options are available. Transportation is offered at some of the centers. Multi-purpose Centers: In addition to the mid-day meal and several activities, the Office on Agings two multi-purpose senior centers offer health maintenance clinics, counseling services, and additional recreational and educational programs. The Bellevue Senior Community Center is considered a multi-purpose senior center. Home-delivered Meals (Meals on Wheels): Weekday meals are delivered to those who are homebound and unable to cook for themselves. Weekend box lunches are also available for those with more extreme nutritional needs. Nutrition Counseling: Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapists (LMNT) work with ENOA clients and provide individualized dietary counseling on topics like weight loss or gain, cooking, diabetes, and other medical concerns. Supplement Program: A liquid supplement is available on a sliding fee scale if the LMNT identifies a person at nutritional risk that would benefit from the use of this product. *Emergency Pantry: A small food pantry is available for ENOA clients when the other local pantries are not available. For more information, please see Danielle or call 402-444-6444 to learn more.

A MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER

First, I would like to extend a very SPECIAL THANK-YOU to

Hillcrest Health Systems has always been a great supporter of our Center. However, over the past 8 months, Hillcrest has reached out even further to us and has helped us significantly to bring in special programs, parties, and much more. They provide a Tai Chi instructor for two classes each week, a Bingo leader for our monthly Bingo Buck Bash (as well as prizes monthly). They were our top company sponsor for our Annual Spaghetti Supper Fundraiser last October, donated all of our beautiful dining room chairs to us and most recently, they have supported us by being a partner for our main Christmas Party in December as well as a fabulous Mardi Gras Party last month. We are working with them on several other projects including a Harvest Ball Formal in the fall. We are very proud and thankful to call them our partner in providing quality services to our area seniors. Thank you HHS! We have a new website that we are very excited about which will be up and ready to go in the beginning of April. The website address is: bellevueseniorcommunitycenter.com Please visit our new site and let us know your input. We also have a new FACEBOOK page as well as brand new email contacts to reach us. Please stop in to my office to learn more. I hope everyone has a great March and participates in some of the wonderful programs we have offered. As always, stop in anytime to see me!

Sincerely, Danielle Brandt Center Manager

SNACK DRIVE FUNDRAISER

The Bellevue Senior Community Center enjoys a great partnership with Bellevue Public Schools. BPS has been very generous in printing our newsletter, allowing us to use their facilities for special events and has helped us every time we have asked. As a small token to show our appreciation, we will be collecting items for the Bellevue East and West High Schools After Prom parties. An After Prom party provides a safe, supervised environment for students. The fun, food and entertainment of After Prom provide an attractive alternative to unsafe activities. Last year, over 1,400 students attended the After Prom festivities. To help with this, the Bellevue Senior Community Center will be collecting food to donate to the parties. Please drop off chips, candy, pop or bottled water at the Bellevue Senior Community Center by Monday, March 26. We look forward to helping out this great cause and to show our appreciation for all that BPS does.
