Town of Buckeye Satellite Office in Festival Ranch


The Town of Buckeye hosted an open house on February 23rd for their new Satellite Office based within Festival Ranch. Department representative including Police, Fire, Development Services, Water Resources, and Community Services were present to answer questions and to offer information regarding their departments in part with this new satellite office. The office is located in the Festival Foothills Elementary Schools north building. At this time, the office plans to be open on Thursdays beginning on a yet to be determined date in March.

An Outstanding Variety of Courses Begin in March!


Get enrolled today in one or more of the fantastic courses offered exclusively to our Sun City Festival residents for the 2012 Spring Session. Registrations are accepted up until the second class meeting. Become more informed on Buying Art, what you need to know about Southwest Gardening, how to Manage Your Portfolio in this economy, how to benefit from Using Spreadsheets In Your Personal Recordkeeping, and so much more! These are just a few of the many courses available to you. Register at the Member Services Desk in the Sage Center during business hours. Receive a 20 percent discount when enrolling in at least four fee-paid courses (per person). Course schedules and registration forms are also available at Member Services. Dont miss out, sign up today!

On March 19, an AARP Driver Safety Course will be offered to Sun City Festival residents. This four-hour classroom refresher will be held from 12 noon to 4 pm and is aimed at drivers age 50 and older. The course provides a review of driving skills and techniques with current rules of the road. Several insurance companies offer discounts to those who complete this course. There is limited seating. Sign up is required and can be done at the Member Services Desk in the Sage Center. There is a participation fee of $12 for AARP members and a $14 fee for non-members. Checks made payable to AARP should be brought at the time of the course which will be held in Celebration Hall. Monthly Community

CHARTEREd Clubs
The Players Club The Players Club offers 12 different board and card games seven days a week. New members are welcome. Consult the newsletter calendar, Cable Channel 22, or Fitness Center bulletin board for dates and times. To join the club, attend any of our daily functions and complete a membership application. Contact Jay Cohn at 928-252-6104 for additional information. The Quilting Bees Come join the fun with the Quilting Bees. We have many fun and exciting projects and classes lined up. Glass Arts Club Members create traditional stained glass and warm glass through workshops, demonstrations, selfexporation and shared expertise. Contact C J Zimmerman at 928-252-2203 for details. The Softball Club All skill levels are welcome, no experience necessary. Visit the softball field on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 am - 3 pm to watch the club play. Contact Bill Jenkins at 928252-5433 if interested in participating.

Desert Harmony Spring is on the way and we would like to invite you to our Spring Concert, A Tour of the States in Song. Barrel Buddies This wine tasting group holds events in members homes, at outside venues, or joint events with other wine clubs. We will have two events in our members homes each month. Please contact Steven Miller at 928-252-6640 for details and to learn more about our club.

Paws & Claws Pet Club We encourage pet owners of all types to meet and gather information on various educational and health related pet information. Our club meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 pm. Mugs & Muffins is the 3rd Thurs. each month at 8:30 am at the Amphitheatre. Tennis Club The Tennis Club offers many game opportunities for all residents to participate. Mixed doubles drop-in sessions are every Tue., Thur., & Fri. at 9 am. All levels are welcome! Contact Ed Piegza at 628-237-3020 for more information.

Sun City Festival RV Club If youd like to learn more about RVing and find ways to enhance the RV life you love, then the Festival RV Club is for you! Genealogy Club Learn the what, where and how of genealogy. Were here to share with members the techniques, methods, resources, and facilities used in genealogy research. Learn how to organize and protect the results of your research. New or experienced are welcome. Meetings are second Wed., Oct - May at 3pm in the Sage Center. Mystery Riders We are a group of motorcyle aficianados who set aside Thursdays and at least two Saturdays or Sundays per month to do our riding throughout Arizona. We have all makes and models in our group. We dont always know where we are going or where weve been but have fun riding. Contact Ed Zvonik at 928-252-3849 for more information.

Pickleball Club We are dedicated to promoting pickleball and welcome everyone to join us in the fun! Lessons available on Tues. at 11 am and Ladies Play is Tues. from 2-4pm. Beginner and novice players are welcome during open play Mon-Sat at 11am. We continue to promote volleyball, table tennis, and water volleyball but do not collect fees for these sports. The Social Dance Club Our members learn and practice various social and line dances in a fun environment. Couples dance is on Mondays, in Celebration Hall. Professional instructors teach from 6:307:30 pm with open dance from 7:30-8:30 pm. Line Dance is Thursdays, 11 am-1 pm in Celebration Hall. Pottery & Ceramics Club A beginners 6-week hand building class started in February and continues into March. Experienced potters are welcome to join our club at any time. For more information, contact Shirley Steinbach at 503-779-3620.

Sun City Festival Golf Chartered Club We are always accepting applications for new members! Every Tues. the Womens Golf Group plays. Every Mon., Wed. and Fri. the Mens Golf Group plays. Festival Association of Beauties (FABs) We promote social interaction among the women here at Sun City Festival. We meet for lunch every Friday, at 11 am, at the Indigo Grille. Field and Stream Club Join us if you have an interest in fishing, hunting, shooting, archery, or other outdoor activities. We meet the first Wed. of the month at 6:30pm. Digital Photo Club The SCF Digital Camera Club is dedicated to advancing the art of photography for the residents of Sun CIty Festival. Canadian/American Friendship Club We promote activities that bring Canadians and Americans together for fun and friendship. The Lady Putters Come and enjoy the camaraderie of friends and neighbors while developing and enhancing your putting skills. The Lady Putters play on Mondays at 12:30 pm and Thursdays at 9:30 am. Please join us for a game or two. Contact Sue Peppler at 928-252-2663 for all the details.

Sun City Festival Car Club Sun City Festival Car Club is a mixture of Muscle, Vintage and Sports Car enthusiasts dedicated to having fun. The Club sponsors monthly outings both events and road trips. Woodcrafters Club Our club caters to all facets of wood crafting. Learn wood working skills and work on various projects with us! The primary purpose of the Woodcrafters Club is to promote the craft of woodworking as a hobby and assist in the improvement of member skills and abilities. Paper Crafts & More Please join us Tuesday mornings at 9:30 am or Wednesday nights at 6 pm. You will be amazed at the variety of projects we do. We incorporate all different levels of skills that include rubber stamping, tea bag folding, iris folding, just to name a few. Stop by and say hi. Fine Arts Club Fine Arts has open painting on Monday afternoons and all day on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Try out your creativity and fun at the same time. Contact Jean Buhle at 928-252-2468 for more information!

Sun City Festival Hiking Club We offer many exciting hiking trips all over the region. We meet once a month to review previous and upcoming trips and learn many helpful tips on hiking. We offer separate hiking levels for new and experienced hikers. This past season we introduced night hikes and overnights for one or two days away. Contact Patrick Smith at 928-252-6018 to join.

Crafty Scrappers Club Life is a scrapbook of young and old in which precious stories are told. When time moves on and our memories fail us, this book will be the sweetest tale. celebrating 34 years of marriage. They are blessed with two sons, Travis and Kyle, who took over the family dental business with their two beautiful daughters-in-law, Katie and Kelly. Bob is a retired dentist of 42 years. During the summers, Bob and Alice enjoy taking care of their grandsons, Owen, 4, and Cole, 2, back in Washington. But, in the winter months there is no place they would rather be than here at Festival. They love all of the exciting activities and have made many lifelong friendships.

Bob and Alice Hackney met in 1972 in Seattle, Washington. After being married to other people they decided to start a relationship of their own. In 2012, they are excited to be

Fitness DOs & DONTs


- Start slowly and increase gradually if you dont exercise regularly. - Get a check-up from your physician when starting an exercise program. - Perform cardiovascular (aerobic) exercise at least three times per week. - Perform resistance exercise (weight training) two to three times per week and rest the days in between. - Use antiseptic wipes on all equipment after using it. - Drink plenty of water before, during and after exercise. - Have your blood pressure checked on a regular basis. - Wear supportive, good-condition, fully-closed athletic shoes. - Make sure youre aerobic exercise is at an effort level that allows you to speak in short sentences with a breathy conversation. - Wear loose-fitting, moisture-wicking clothing during exercise. - Shower prior to entering the pool. - Ask for help if youre unsure how to safely operate a piece of fitness equipment. - Check in and sign-up early for group exercise classes. - Have your cholesterol checked yearly. - Store duffel bags, purses, coats and other items either in lockers or in storage area.

- Wear pants or shorts with belt loops or belts while using fitness equipment. - Leave personal belongings laying on or around exercise equipment that you are not using. - Sit idle on weight equipment and converse with others. - Exercise if you are feeling ill with symptoms such as fever, sore throat, nausea, or get lightheaded, diizzy or faint. - Leave personal belongings in locker room lockers when you are not using the facility. - Subscribe to the belief of no pain, no gain.

American College of Sports Medicine Recommends:


Cardiovascular exercise most days of the week for 30-60 minutes. Strength training 3 times per week and never on consecutive days. Flexibility exercise (stretching) at the end of each exercise session.
