Vocabulary and Spelling
All students took a break from their Wordly Wise this week to focus on learning about Greek and Latin Root words. They started by looking at different dinosaur words and realized why they were called what they were called based on the roots. This new information should prove to be helpful for students as they continue to prepare for the school wide spelling bee that started today!

Grammar Adjectives Bringing Color, numbers, and descriptions to all types of writing! Adverbs are proving to be a challenge and students are working hard to incorporate them into their writing. Please take a moment to ask students how they are doing. They have all discussed the difference between good and well and should be able to use them both as adjectives and adverbs. Writing This week marked the start of our poetry unit. Students jumped in head first by analyzing a famous poem entitled Homework, oh, homework! They even had the opportunity to write one poem this week that will be the first in their poem books that will be published at the end of the unit. ReadingMark Ups! Students used Mark Ups this week to analyze historical passages based on famous African Americans and events.

his week students took an in depth look into

ancient Rome and Roman life. In each hour, students had the opportunity to create a comic strip of the life of a Roman man and woman. Once they investigated what life was like they all moved on to learn about the Punic wars from our guest teacher Dean Kobylarz!

Thank You. . .
First, I would like to thank you all for your well wishes regarding the passing of my grandfather last week. All of your thoughts are very much appreciated. Second, the math rotations will be continuing our progress towards the end of curriculum. Rotation 1 will be progressing from numbers and operations into data and probability. We will continue to review the math basics throughout the year but in the context of other math topics. Rotation 2 will be continuing to work towards mastering proportional reasoning including converting measurement units and geometry. Rotation 3 will be working on geometry using proportional reasoning.

understanding how energy flows through ecosystems this week. They worked in groups to create a giant web for a Prairie Ecosystem and will use that information to assist in comparing and contrasting the different science cycles. After viewing several videos on the water, nitrogen, carbon, and oxygen cycles they will organize information in a short essay that will demonstrate their knowledge of the different cycles and what they have in common. Students of the 6th Grade have been working hard to bring to life their historical figures. They have researched using MLA format, created a powerpoint presentation, and will now come to life as their historical figure. They will each have their own section in the museum with a play button where they will come to life for each guest for a brief one to three minute mini presentation.
