Name: Eliza R. Valenzuela Student #: H110046 Case Title: Elektra Products, Inc. Date: 11/26/11 Problem Varying responses of employees to the New Era of Innovative Management Definition concept introduced by newly appointed CEO, created chaos and factions instead of collaboration and cooperation Objective To unify the employees thinking, action and working attitudes towards the achievement of the innovative solutions to the companys problems Alternative Courses of Action Alt 1 Top Management assigned selected managers to several problem-solving teams to come up with ideas for implementing the empowerment campaign Pros: Employees with similar thinking were receptive, excited and quickly adapted changes in thinking, attitude and work ethics which collectively enabled them to brainstorm innovative solutions for existing problems as exemplified by Barbaras team Cons: Traditional thinkers like Simon, were cynical, skeptical and uncooperative to the innovation Top Management want to implement. Department heads also were inflexible, resistant to change, and uncomfortable with a less- structured organization that allowed flexibility and information- sharing, as illustrated by objections raised to new ideas presented by Barbaras team. Disseminate individual questionnaire survey for the employees so that management will have a feel on the acceptance of new concept introduced, get to know their personality differences, strengths and weaknesses, identify problems from different perspectives, expectations, points of conflicts and suggested solutions from each one Pros: Based on the data gathered, taking into consideration each and everyones opinions ( not just the dominant ones), CEO can then formulate his specific planning, organizing and leading strategies so that disagreeing employees will lower their defenses and eventually enjoin them to collaborate in achieving the new organizational goals. Cons: Takes time to review individual survey questionnaire Establish trust and mutual respect among the employees through team-building activities to ensure everyone moves collectively in the same direction Pros: Foster more harmonious, solid, working relations among employees first so that they will all be receptive, by piecemeal instead of drastic manner , to the several novel strategies that CEO want to implement in achieving new organizational goals Cons: May take time and delay implementation of urgent strategies designed to answer the pressing problems of the company Recommendation and expected consequence Prioritize the interpersonal relations aspect of Management by organizing team- building workshops and seminars that will break resistance barriers, develop trust and respect among all employees. Once harmonious working relations are established, planning, organizing , motivating and leading them towards achieving the innovative solutions that they themselves took part of, would be easier to attain.
