Traces of Grace
Dear Fellow Parishioners; As we move into this season of Lent, the idea of retreats, extra prayer time, refocusing our priorities, all become part of our conversations. Another image might also come to mind: Pilgrimage. Pilgrimage can be as simple as a walk on the beach to a journey to a faraway place. It is something different than a tour. There is a different set of expectations on a Pilgrimage, ones that are open to the working of the Spirit all along the way of the journey. To hear and see things in new ways that we carry in our hearts is one of the fruits of a Pilgrimage. Our parish is offering two opportunities for a special Pilgrimage this year. Fr. Loc will be the priest chaplain on a Pilgrimage to Medjagorje as well as Lourdes. This springtime pilgrimage will give pilgrims the opportunity to draw closer to the Blessed Mother in shrines that are known all over the world. I have been to both sites many years ago and I found them to both to be places of prayer, reconciliation and profound peace. Later in May, Fr. Leon Hutton (Church History Professor at St. Johns Seminary) and I will be the chaplains on a Pilgrimage to England. England? What could there be outside of bangers and mash? Well, there is great history of the Catholic Church in England from St. Edward the Confessor, the patron saint of our parish, to the persecution and martyrdom of many Catholics, to the Oxford Movement and to the place of Blessed John Newman, a convert to the Catholic Faith. A Pilgrimage should be much more than just running from site to site (remember the movie, If its Tuesday, it must be Belgium) but a time of considerable options that allow one to be open to the movement of the Spirit. This is what we are hoping and planning for. I realize that Pilgrimages like this are not cheap, but I believe they are certainly worth the investment, because they can be life changing. If you would like to know more information, please go to our website, www.blog.stedward.com or pick up a flyer in the glass case outside the parish office. We would love to have you be part of the Pilgrimage experience! Together in Christ; Pope Benedict XVI at The Shrine of St. Edward the Confessor

SUPPORT PARENTAL NOTIFICATION There will be tables located at the Church exit at all Masses on Sat./Sun. March 3rd and 4th to collect signatures to put the California Initiative Measure for Parental Notification prior to an abortion to a minor on the November 2012 ballot. Currently, in California, a Doctor can perform a surgical or chemical abortion on a minor girl (under 18) without informing her parents or legal guardian. The intent of this measure is to require Doctors, under law, to notify parents and guardians of their intent to facilitate and perform an abortion (taking the life of an unborn baby in the girl's womb) on their minor child. In California, a girl under 18 years can't get a flu shot, tooth cavity filled, or an aspirin dispensed by the school nurse without a parent knowing. In cases where a child is pregnant from an adult and given an abortion this crime is not reported to police for prosecution. St. Edward the Confessors SILENT RETREAT FOR WOMEN will be held at Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center on the weekend of March 30-April 1, 2012. Join your fellow parishioners for this weekend of spiritual enrichment and growth. The Passionist retreat team offers inspirational talks on the theme, as well as time for quiet prayer, Mass, Reconciliation and Stations of the Cross. This years theme is : CATCH THE FIRE! Responding To Gods Touch. Our retreat begins Friday evening with a buffet supper and concludes Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Please phone Liz Mojica @ (949) 4221241 for information or to make your reservation. Requested donation: $195.00. $50.00 non-refundable deposit completes registration. No one is turned away due to inability to make this donation See www.materdolorosa.org for more information.
