should publish books for the Latino market, but why not. With Latino buying power $1 trillion on 2010 expected to grow to $1.3 trillion or 12% of total U.S. purchasing power, according to the University of Georgias Selig Center for Economic Growth, publishers that get in at g r o u n d l e v e l w i l l s e e t h e i r investments pay off. In many ways the Spanish-language book market resembles the English-language one; each publisher chooses a different approach to reach readers, in this case depending on the level of acculturation they are targeting. There is a groundswell of energy and creativity rising out of the Hispanic community in this country; young voices, developing issues and distinct cultures that make up a larger heritage. Our goal at Milenio Publishing, LLC is to publish books that give life to that evolving culture and the multicultural evolution in the United States. According to a report National Endowment for the Arts Reading on the Rise: A New Chapter in American Literacy, released in 2010, the proportion of literary reading increased most for what the study classi[ies as Hispanic Americans, rising to 31.9 percent for adults 18 and over. During the last quarter of 2008 Milenio Publishing, LLC released its latest titles: Barack Obama Campaign Speeches ISBN 978-1-928810-30-8, Black Carib: A Mixture of Yellow Carib and African & The Origin of the G a r i f u n a P e o p l e I S B N 978-1-928810-28-5 What you should k n o w a b o u t N o n p r o [ i t s I S B N 978-1-928810-20-9, and Rhode Island Nonpro[it Corporation Act ISBN 978-1-928810-21-6. Milenio Publishing an independent book publisher in the United States is seeking writers of Latin descent to publish books that resonate with us, that truly re[lect our vibrancy, our struggle, and our many hued selves. According to Marcela Landres, former associate editor in the Touchstone/ Fireside division of Simon & Schuster for more than seven years this is the best time ever in the history to be a Latino in the publishing industry. Landres compares the market for contemporary Latino writers today to the African American literary market of more than a decade ago. We feel very con[ident of big numbers going forward. We need to rev up, says Toms vila, Publisher of Milenio Publishing, LLC, referring to growth in Hispanic books for various customers since the beginning of 2006. Celebrating Public Service

Our economy is in turmoil. Our urban core is in the brink of bankruptcy. Our tax based needs to expand. Health care costs and the number of uninsured continue to rise. Pensions are dragging municipal governments down. Now, more than ever, the people of Rhode Island need effective government. We will not have the government that the times demand and the Rhode Islanders deserve without talented public servants. To build this government, we must celebrate public service and restore government's image as a place where our best and brightest join together to make a difference for our communities, our country, and our world.

Rhode Island Latino Political Empowerment

Rhode Island Latino Political Empowerment captures the turning point of the Rhode Island and the Nation previously dormant potential Latino politics into reality starting in 1996 when the Hispanic vote astounded political experts with both its explosive growth and its unpredictability. In Rhode Island the growing participation sprang in reaction to proposals in Congress to deny benets to immigrants. Latinos also rallied against the Rhode Island congressional candidacy of former Providence Mayor Joseph Paolino Jr., whose campaign featured a call for English as an ofcial national language.

Barack Obama Campaign Speeches

Barack Obama had a gift, and he knew it. He had a way of making very smart, very accomplished people feel virtuous just by wanting to help Barack Obama. It had happened at Harvard Law School in the mid-1980s, at a time when the school was embroiled in ghts over political correctness. He had won one of the truly plum prizes of overachievement at Harvard: he had been voted president of the law review, the rst African-American ever so honored. Ethnic succession theory is a theory in sociology stating that ethnic and racial groups entering a new area may settle in older neighborhoods or urban areas until achieving economic parity with certain economic classes. The concept of succession is well established in "both ecological and economic models of urban residential change." As the newer group becomes economically successful, it moves out to a better residential area. So is the experience of the Southside of Providence, and in this emerging Hispanic community during the period 1984 through 1994, that lead to the eventual political rise of the Latino political rise and the election of the rst Latino Mayor.
