5. How did you attract/address your audience?

Front Cover:
In the front cover of my magazine, I attracted my audience by using a bold, red masthead to represent the theme of chart music as the logo for UK Top 40 is red. I then used a MCU shot of a model as my main cover image; this is because as this magazine is aimed at 15-25 year olds and so they can relate to this music artist as she represents an average C2DE female. In response to my questionnaire, my responses were that the target audience wanted bright colours to attract them. I therefore used a red masthead to stand out against the background and therefore grab the readers attention. I then also chose interesting cover lines to put on the front cover to encourage the audience to become more drawn in and to give other viewers a clear representation of what genre of magazine this is. The price that I have used would also draw in the audience as in response to my questionnaire; my target audience said that one reason why they currently do not purchase music magazines is because they are too expensive. So in response to this, I have clearly advertised the price in a splashier to make it more eye catching and appealing. I have attracted my audience my target audience by using specific colours that would attract females aged 15-25. I have used appropriate sell lines such as celebrity music gossip, fashion and beauty. My main image also represents the female target audience as by having a female, looking casually dressed and looking like the normal everyday person who will make them automatically connect to the magazine and the music artist.

Contents Page: When creating my contents page, I decided to carry on using the colour scheme of red to show links with my front cover. When looking at headings for the pages, I decided to place them in a white box with a black outline to make them stand out against the red background. The font I then used inside the boxes is again the same font that has been used on the front cover for the sell lines. The use of this font Century Gothic I think works well with the page and is quite interesting to read and is readable to the eye of the readers. I have then decided to use the headings in capital bold letters to stand out and to directly attract the reader to whats inside this issues magazines. The way in which the words contents have been arranged is to make it look interesting and eye-catching. Also when looking at other magazines for inspiration, Vibe magazine had arranged their contents logo in a similar way and I have tried to reencounter that. The picture that I have used of a student posing in a studio. I have used Photoshop to manipulate the photo and make it look professional. I told the student to smile to give a warm welcoming approach to the magazine and to give an idea of extras that are included in the magazine. Finally, the subscribe today splatter, is in bright red and bold white writing to contrast against the background and to give an offer to the magazine which would encourage more people to purchase the magazine and to carry on buying the magazine.

Double Page Spread: With my double page spread, I have again included a red background to show direct links with the contents page and front cover. With the left hand page, I have used the whole page to fill with a dominate image which would attract the target audience. I have used an interesting angle to help create a different view on the article. For the main headline, I used bold, capitalised lettering to make the text stand out and be more attractive. I then decided to write the text in columns, using the same font in both the contents page and the front cover. I have done this because it shows consistency.
