CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

Media is very important in living. It helps us in better communication process. It gives communicators accurate information. But not all of us have our good beliefs in media. Some use this because of the belief that it makes communication fast but on the other side, it is dangerous because it can destroy ones reputation if the use of these medias are abuse.

Background of the Study


Historically, media was used mainly by governments and educational institutions. It was restricted to university and scientific researchers who were mostly men. The early media was used by computer expert, engineer, scientist etc. But all of these has each own views about the role of this media in our everyday life.

Conceptual Framework of the Study


The figure 1 below show the conceptual framework which guide the researcher in the study. Input Throughput Output

The input of the study consisted of the four groups of respondents according to their courses: 32 Bachelor of Sciences in Fisheries (BSF), 4 Bachelor of Science in Criminology (BSC), 32 Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication (BAC), and 1 Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BSP) The throughput consisted of the conduct of research and survey through questionnaire, statistical treatment of Data, its analysis and interpretation . The output consisted of the profile of the students, relationship between the students, the education to the internet.

Statement of the Problem


This study aimed to know and understand the views of the second year student from the

College of Arts and Sciences at Batangas State University-ARASOF in Brgy. Bucana Nasugbu, Batangas as of second semester 2011-2012 about the role of media in for better communication. Specifically, it attempted to answers the following questions: 1. What relationship is being develop by the use of media in communication to the a. family b. classmates c. friends

2. What are the good and bad effects of media use by students with regards to: a. education, and b. environment? 3. How internet affects the cognitive thinking of the students?

Hypotheses
The null hypotheses tested in this study are as follows: 1. There is a significant relationship being developed in the family, classmates and friends if media is used in communication process 2. Media has its good and harmful effects to the students, to their education and to their environment.

Significance of the study The study help everyone understand of how modern technology specifically the media access could be part of the students life. It provides you the ideas of how the teenagers had been affected by this feature and would help everyone to settle down things. The researcher believes that media although has its harmful role sometimes in the society it plays definitely a huge role in advocating better communication . Also the most important role of media is to make family always get in touch of whats happening in our contry eventhough they work in abroad.

Scope and Delimitation of the Study


This study was conducted in BatStateU-ARASOF at Brgy. Bucana Nasugbu, Batangas. The respondents of the study were the second year Psychology, Criminology, Mass Communication and Fishery students from the College of Art and Sciences as of second semester of 2011-2012. The said students were the respondents because they are exposed in all kinds of mass media because it is part of their curriculum and of their daily routine. A set of questionaire was utilized in gathering important data
