Guardian Lock

The registered trade mark of the company is IMPERIAL and wherever possible products are so marked. Guardian Lock & Engineering Co. Ltd. was founded in 1982 in Willenhall, West Midlands, which has been the centre of the lock making industry in the U.K. for some 500 years. The current premises, which were purpose built for a lock manufacturer in the early part of the twentieth century, have been extended and modernised. Today the company operates from this well equipped facility continuing a tradition of excellence in the manufacture of mortice locks, latches and complementary products marked under their well know trade name IMPERIAL. Unlike many lock manufactures, we do not source products from low cost economies believing as we do, in the manufacturing skills and quality which are the hallmarks of British industry.

STANDARDS:

The product range includes locks to Categories A and B of BS 5872:1980, kitemarked locks to BS 3621:2007 for Thief Resistant Locks, and BS 8300:2001 Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the need of disabled people Code of Practice. As progress is made towards the harmonisation of European Building Hardware Standards products are submitted for independent testing to relevant standards; and the 72mm centre cylinder mortice lock range has been successfully tested to the harmonised BS EN 12209:2003 Mechanical Locks and Latches.

LOCK SELECTION :

A lock or latch correctly fitted, maintained and considerately used will provide many years of satisfactory service. As a general guide, three possible categories of use may be considered. Light duty - for use typically in housing and other buildings where there is a low frequency of use primarily by those with a high incentive to exercise care. Medium duty - for use typically in office and other buildings where there is a medium frequency of use primarily by those with some incentive to exercise care. Heavy duty - for use typically in public and other buildings where there is a high

frequency of use primarily by those with little incentive to exercise care. It should be remembered that a lock is only as strong as the door and frame to which it is fitted.
