CANDELS: Strong Lensing Candidates

Alexander Chiu, Asantha Cooray, Hai Fu, Jae Calanog, Julie Wardlow, Sam Kim, Joseph Smidt, CANDELS team University of California, Irvine

Summary
1) We present three lens candidates. UDS-01: double source lens system previously detected by Geach et al. (2007) GOODS-S01: compact lens candidate GOODS-S02: compact lens candidate previously detected by More et al. (2009) Details are presented in Cooray et al. (2012) 2) Data provided by CANDELS (Grogin et al., 2011; Koekemoer et al., 2011) 3) Internal CANDELS team vote reduced list of candidates down to three 4) Modeled with Lenstool (Jullo et al. 2007) and GALFIT (Peng et al. 2010) with iterative IDL routine AMOEBA_SA 5) A search for lensed galaxies in CANDELS EGS and COSMOS data will be completed next year.

UDS-01 Spectral Energy Distribution (SED)

Luminosity scales are magnification corrected. Photometry points provided by Hubble Space Telescope, Canada France Hawaii Telescope, and UKIRT Infrared Deep Sky Survey Curves are best-fit Bruzual and Charlot SED templates (2003) High [OIII] line emissions Star-burst phase.

UDS-01 Model and Source Reconstruction

a) Pseudo-color image of UDS-01 b) Source plane reconstruction responsible for tangential arc c) Source plane reconstruction responsible for double source e) Apertures used in photometry to construct SEDs f) Critical line of tangential arc g) Critical line of double source

Both Images: Pseudo-color images created using the HST/ACS F814w and WFC3 F125W and F160W bands. Source is the white ellipse located near the center of the model frame. The red and blue lines show critical and caustic lines, respectively. Each tick mark is 1. Both candidates were modeled with a singular isothermal sphere (SIS) dark matter halo. Sources were assumed to be at a redshift z = 2.
