The Good News Program has the only planners to receive an Imprimatur!
The Good News Program starts in the primary classroom. Our Primary Planner gives children in kindergarten and first grade a head start in learning to be organized. And, like their older brothers and sisters, they learn about the Church through its major feasts and seasons, the Sacraments, and the Church Year, rooted in the stories of Jesus in the Sunday Gospels.
We offer unique Teacher Planners & Supplements for all grade levels. (see pages 14-17)

This is my body which will be given for you This is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant Kateri Tekakwithas father and mother were Native American Indians. Do this in memory of me. Her mother was a Christian. One day some Jesuit missionaries came into her village. They told stories about Jesus like her mother told when she Confirmation was a little girl. Kateri loved Jesus and was baptized. Kateri took care of children. She spent many hours asking Jesus to help Native Americans become Christians. Blessed Kateri is called the Lily of the Mohawks. Blessed Kateri is the first Native American and the first American layperson to be called Blessed. Pray that some day we will call her St. Kateri Tekakwitha.

The CHRISTMAS SEASON tells us that Jesus has come. We see pictures of Mary, Joseph and Jesus, the Holy Family. During the CHRISTMAS SEASON we also celebrate EPIPHANY, the day when the magi followed a star to visit Jesus.
EASTER is a season of joy. The Lord is risen from the dead, and we sing, ALLELUIA! On the ASCENSION, Jesus leaves us with a simple message, Peace be with you.
PURPLE is the color of repentance. During the solemn season of LENT we remember how Jesus suffered and died for us, the greatest demonstration of Gods love. Remember, the color PINK OR ROSE helps us rejoice. We rejoice on the 4TH SUNDAY OF LENT because Easter is getting very close!
Jesus promised not to leave us alone! The DAY OF PENTECOST informs us that he sends the Holy Spirit to be our Helper and our Friend. The color is RED, like the flames that appeared on the heads of the disciples that special day. TRINITY SUNDAY is celebrated on the Sunday after Pentecost. On Trinity Sunday we honor God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Amen.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Pray the Apostles Creed as you hold the cross on your Rosary.
When we pray the Apostles Creed we are saying the things we believe about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and our Catholic faith. Find this prayer inside the front cover of this book. Learn it by heart. Color the cross on the next page yellow.
Pray one Our Father on the first large bead of the Rosary. Jesus taught his disciples to pray by teaching them the words to this prayer. Do you know it by heart? Color the Our Father bead red. . Pray three Hail Marys on the next three beads.
When we pray the Hail Mary, we are honoring Mary with the words of the Angel Gabriel and Marys cousin Elizabeth. Color these Hail Mary beads blue.
The Glory Be
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
We finish each mystery by praying one Glory Be on the space between the beads. At the end of the Rosary we pray the Hail, Holy Queen.
Find this prayer inside the front cover of this book.

HOW TO PRAY THE ROSARY
At the end of the Rosary we pray the Hail, Holy Queen.
6. We finish each mystery by praying one Glory Be on the space between the beads. 5. Pray Hail Marys on the next ten beads. Use your Rosary beads to help you count them. 4. The Rosary is divided into parts, called Mysteries. Each part helps us remember something from the life of Jesus, his family and his friends. We begin each Mystery by saying the Our Father. 3. Pray three Hail Marys on the three smaller beads. When we pray the Hail Mary, we are honoring Mary with the words of the Angel Gabriel and Marys cousin Elizabeth. Pray one Glory Be in the space between the beads. When we pray the Glory Be, we are praising God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. 2. Pray one Our Father on the first large bead of the Rosary. Jesus taught his disciples to pray by teaching them the words to this prayer. 1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross. Pray the Apostles Creed as you hold the cross on your Rosary. When we pray the Apostles Creed, we are saying the things we believe about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and our Catholic faith.

Those who ________ his commandments _____________ in him, and he in __________, and the way we know that he remains in us is from the _______________ that he ___________ us.
The Bible is a collection of many books, divided into two parts: the Old Testament (TES-ta-ment) and the New Testament. The New Testament begins with the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. It tells about the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus and the history of the early Christian Church.
Bible citations (sigh-TAY-shuns) show you how to find a verse or story in the Bible. There are three steps to looking up a passage in the Bible:
1.
Find the book that the reading is in. Example: Exodus Say: EHK-so-duhs. Hint: Look in the Old Testament, between the books of Genesis and Leviticus. It is part of the first five books in the Bible, also called the Pentateuch. Exodus tells the stories of God, Moses, and the Ten Commandments. Find the chapter of the book the reading is in. Example: Exodus 20 Say: Exodus, chapter twenty. Hint: The chapter is the first number after the name of the book. Find the verse number(s) of the reading. Example: Exodus 20:2 Say: Exodus, twenty, two.
2. 3.
Hint: The verse is the second number, found after the chapter number. The chapter and the verse are separated by a colon (:). If two verse numbers are separated with a hyphen (-), you are to read all of the verses in between. If the verse numbers are separated with a comma (,), read only the verses whose numbers are given. Now look up some verses on your own!

Jr. High/High School Student Planners designed for today's Catholic teen
The Good News Program provides Jr. High/High school students a faith-strengthening tool for keeping track of schedules and school work in a size and format designed specifically for them. The Gospel-based concepts in the Good News Jr. High/High School Planner are more mature. While serving to keep track of activities in and out of school, this planner challenges students to reassess their beliefs and the purpose of their lives, in the light of Jesus and the Gospel. The faith-filled material in the Jr. High/High School Planner is coordinated with the younger grades and ALL fully supplemented in the Teacher Planner.

The period end a sentence and is used after the letters of an abbreviation: Sam Smith, M.D. Susan Smith, Ph.D.
PERIOD
The comma separates words in a list: I rented CDs, videos, and DVDs. is used before a conjunction that joins two clauses with subjects and verbs: Jason and Jill went for the ball, but neither caught it. sets off clauses and phrases: Steve, who just turned 13, had never been out of the city. is used after a dependent clause that starts a sentence: When your grades come up, I will raise your allowance. sets apart words that refer to each other: Johann Gutenberg, the printer, lived over 500 years ago. separates the words like cities and states or the numbers in dates: Detroit, Michigan, is Motown. September 29, 1993, is my birthday.
COMMA
Double quotation marks are used at the beginning and the end of a quotation. Single quotation marks begin and end a quote within another quote: Jesus said, So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say We are unprofitable servants. Commas and periods usually fall inside the quotation marks, but colons and semicolons usually fall outside.

The greatest COMMANDMENTthe Pharisees and Saducees just knew they had finally set Jesus up to fail. All Jews know well that the Law of Moses which they conscientiously follow, consists of the 613 laws found in the Pentateuch or Torah, the first five books of the Bible. No one could possibly sum up all those laws into one. But once again Jesus proved he was smarter and more clever than the scholars of Jewish law, by demonstrating how hundreds of commandments and laws together with testimonies from the prophets, are easily and beautifully combined into only two: Love the Lord your God and love your neighbor. Lord Jesus, there are rules and regulations everywhere. Sometimes they seem overwhelming and even make me angry. I know I need guidance in the world, and your Commandments are the foundation for this guidance. Help me recognize that rules are in place for my benefit and the benefit of all people. Help me remember I can live my entire life by faithfully observing the two greatest ones. Amen. Dictionary A commandment is a rule or law. When we follow Gods Commandments, we show love for God and others.
Monday The word this week is very long so show students the shorter word within it (command). What is a command? With your loud teacher voice, surprise the class by shouting a command: SIT DOWN, NOW! All of us have laws and rules we must follow in society. God has given us commandments to follow so we will live good lives here and be in heaven someday. How many commandments did God give us? (10) What special prophet did God give the commandments to? (Moses) In Sundays Gospel story, Jesus sums up all ten into two: Love of God and love of neighbor. Tuesday Recall last weeks discussion about the Golden Rule, etc., as you talk about Tuesdays Journal Exercise. Today we remember St. Luke, apostle and evangelist. What is an evangelist? What evangelist did we remember on September 21? (St. Matthew) St. Luke wrote two important books in the Bible. One is his Gospel, the other is the Book of Acts.

Introduce them to Roman numerals by placing I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X on the board. Explain how they will put I, II, and III, on the LEFT tablet because these commandments refer to God. Read about these commandments in Exodus 20 (to simplify the story, use a childrens Bible). The rest of the numbers will be placed on the RIGHT tablet because they tell us how we should treat one another. When finished, your tablets reflect Sundays Gospel: Two great commandmentsLove of God and Love of neighbor.

Friday: To prepare for the month of November, ask students to bring in a picture of someone in their families who has died. As part of the assignment, each child should learn a little about the person: place of birth; where he/she lived; did he/she get married and have children? How are they related? (You may want to send a note home asking parents for help.)

One of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?
The Church Year is a cycle of seasons and feasts that makes present for us the saving action of Jesus life and ministry. The cycle of the Church Year revolves around three great feast days that celebrate the Mysteries of ChristChristmas, Easter and Pentecost. The seasons that connect these days are Advent, the Christmas Season, Lent, the Easter Season and Ordinary Time.

Jesus said to him: You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments. Matthew 22:35-40

ADVENT: the preparation time for Christs coming, beginning the fourth Sunday before Christmas. THE CHRISTMAS SEASON: two weeks of celebration of Christs birth, leading to Epiphany and the Baptism of our Lord. ORDINARY TIME: the four to nine weeks between the Christmas Season and Lent. LENT: Ash Wednesday followed by 40 days of preparation for Easter, concluding at the three days of the Triduum, the very center of the whole Church Year. Holy Week runs from Passion Sunday through the Easter Triduum, the three days beginning with the Mass of the Lords Supper on Holy Thursday and ending with Vespers on Easter Sunday. THE EASTER SEASON: begins on Easter Sunday, followed by fifty days of rejoicing. The season includes the Ascension and ends with the seasons climax, Pentecost. ORDINARY TIME: the two dozen weeks from Pentecost Sunday to Christ the King Sunday. The feast of All Saints is celebrated late in this season.
