National Incident Management System

The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was created in 2003 by the Secretary of Homeland Security . The purpose was to provide a template for all government and private organizations to work together during a national incident. As a member of CAP, you may have the opportunity to work with numerous search & rescue and disaster relief organizations. It is each individuals responsibility to be familiar with how the system works in order to be effective participants and to represent CAP well. All Emergency Services (ES) qualified members need to complete FEMA course IS-700 - An Introduction to the National Incident Management System by 31 December 2008 in order to participate in ES activities. The course is available on the FEMA website at http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.asp. Please print a copy of your test completion certificate for your personnel file.

Whats the Yeager?

The Yeager Award is part of the Aerospace Education Program for Senior Members (AEPSM). It consists of a 100-question, openbook, online quiz over topics ranging from aerospace history to basic aerodynamics. If you do not have an aviation background, it is a great introduction to the field. To take the test, go to the online exams section of E-services. A electronic copy of the text book can be found online or a hard back book can be checked out from the squadron. After earning the award, you will receive a certificate and a ribbon for wear on your uniform.

Attending SLS or CLC

Squadron Leadership School (SLS) and Corporate Learning Course (CLC) will be held on 24-25 January 2009 at the Central Fellowship Christian Fellowship Academy located at 8460 Hawkinsville Road in Macon, GA. If interested in attending, you must complete a Form 17 and have it signed by the squadron commander. Billeting may be available at Warner Robins AFB, but your Form 17 must be received by Wing HQ by 06 Jan 09 and you must write Billeting across the top. Keep in mind that these courses are only offered twice per year. SLS is required for completion of Level II and promotion to Captain. CLC is required for completion of Level III and promotion to Major. If you have already attended these courses and are interested in serving as a staff member (which is required for completion of Level IV and promotion to Lt. Col), please contact Maj. Scott Hamre at sghamre@bellsouth.net.
