CLASS : YEAR 1 FOCUS : LISTENING & SPEAKING, READING THEME : WORLD OF KNOWLEDGE TOPIC : SHAPES TIME : 60 MINUTES VOCABULARY : Square, triangle, rectangle, circle CONTENT STANDARD: By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be able to : 1. 1. pronounce words and speak confidently with the correct stress, rhythm and intonation 2. 2 demonstrate understanding of a variety of linear and non-linear texts in the form of print and non-print materials using a range of strategies to construct meaning.

LEARNING STANDARDS: 1.1.4 2.2.1 Able to talk about a stimulus with guidance. Able to read and apply word recognition and word attack skills by matching words with: a) graphics b) spoken words

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Pupils should be able to: 1) Name the shapes of objects shown to them 2) Create shapes in groups 3) Match the words to the correct shapes

4) Solve a jigsaw puzzle

TEACHING RESOURCES: A colourful bag, a clock, a ball, a compact disc, an eraser, a book, a pencil box, a file, a ruler, a photo frame, a triangle, a sandwich, a triangle-shaped tupperware

1. Preparation Phase 1.1 Observation (5 minutes) .

1.Teacher brings a colourful bag to the classroom. 2. The teacher asks a few pupils to come in front and take out one object at a time,name them and put them on the table. 1.Teacher asks pupils to go through the objects . 2. Teacher calls out a few pupils to group the objects.

1. A few pupils come in front and take out the objects and name them. 2. The pupils put the objects on the table. 3. Pupils answer questions posed by teacher. 1. Pupils look and touch the objects. 2. Pupils group the objects in four groups.

1. Teacher explains about shapes and provides a few objects as examples.

1. Pupils read aloud the words. 2.Pupils provides examples of objects which has shapes of triangle, square, rectangle and circle.

2.2 Synthesizing Idea (10 minutes)

1.Teacher divides the pupils into a few groups, 6 members in a group.

1.Pupils work in their groups to form shapes. 2. Pupils cooperate with each other in the group to form shapes.

1. Teacher asks pupils to think of any other shapes that they know.

1. Pupils think of the shapes that they know and name them.

1.Teacher distributes pictures of shapes to 2 groups of pupils and word cards to the another two groups.

1. Pupils finds and match the words to the pictures of shapes.
