Introduction
When it comes to creating job opportunities, alongside the typical manufacturing sector, service sector is taking centerstage quite fast and in this regard, the use of ICT is increasingly finding its niche. Apart from hardware based services, services like software solution, online solution service, outsourcing are coming to the fore. Hence, the ICT sector has turned into another lucrative avenue for job seekers as well as budding entrepreneurs.

There is no denying the fact that one of the prime indicator or growth factor for the software industry is technical people. Similarly, in order to retain and groom these technical personnel, the concerned firms need to bag revenue on an increasing scale. To date that has proved to be quite difficult. However, in recent times, with the growth of the ICT training centers, availability of skilled people has been enhanced. Also, more and more software business houses are grabbing orders from abroad. Hence, it is expected that within a decade, ICT sector will claim a predominant role in our economic growth.

A few years ago, the predominant area of operations in the ICT sector was the hardware sector. It is probably one reason why we still have such a huge number of hardware houses compared to software vendors. However, in spite of this, quite understandably owing to our belated entrance into the ICT field, our PC penetration is one of the lowest in the world (4.5 per 1000). Furthermore, its growth has been limited to the capital city and few metropolitans in our country.

As expected, recently our country business has shown a gradual shift in focusing on software solution services rather than simply hardware ones. With each passing day, more and more firms are coming to the fore in order to provide IT-based solution services to not only local firms, but international ones as well. At present, the ICT sector can be classified into four areas : Hardware, Software Solution, Network Solutions, and IT enabled service.

Nowadays, there are only a few firms providing dedicated software services, and even fewer having adopted any form of quality standards. However, like any learning curve, more and more firms are coming into this fray; systematic procedures and practices are being implemented so that quality software houses are being produced. It is true that the growth of the ICT sector is being hampered by lack of proper telecommunications infrastructure; Bangladeshi companies continue to make the best out of what is being provided to them. With the infrastructure situation improving, the software market is bound to increase.
