Course Description This course introduces the students to the field of philosophy, the queen of all sciences. It is about how a person understands his nature as well as the world and how to make decisions in life. The student begins to have a better understanding of himself and the world as he gets introduce to the different branches of philosophy. With this philosophical foundation, he will be able to meet the demands of his profession as well as to face the problems of life. Course Objectives General: The students should be able to: 1. Reflect critically on the totality of human experience, understand and appreciate the beauty and goodness as well as learn the lessons of the past. 2. Enhance the awareness of the students regarding the importance of the specific approaches in the discussion and analysis of social issues and formulate for themselves a humane perspective that integrates all branches of philosophy in a profound understanding of the individual as well as society. Know the nature, scope, branches and division of philosophy Describe the different methods of philosophical inquiry Explain the relevance and importance of philosophy to oneself and society Enumerate the sources of knowledge Compare the strengths and limitations of the sources of knowledge Analyze the significance, strengths and weaknesses of the different philosophies on freedom and determination 7. Describe the nouns of morality of the different philosophies

8. Describe the role of religion in our society 9. Discuss the philosophical arguments of theism, agnosticism and atheism 10. Compare and contrast the philosophy odf education in the first and third world countries 11. Differentiate the banking and liberating education as reflected in Freires philosophy of education 12. Discuss the issues that confront the Philippine educational system and suggest measures on how to solve them 13. Write insight papers on the philosophies of philosophers under study 14. Formulate a Filipino philosophy based on its perceived elements Course Requirements 1. Major Exams Major Exams should be taken on the scheduled date No special exams shall be given unless there is a valid reason in which case the students must provide the necessary document signed by the proper authorities 2. Recitation and Attendance Students are expected to actively participate in class discussion Tardiness is discouraged Three tomes late is equivalent to one absence and six times absent means dropped from the class list 3.
