Six Sigma is a fact-based data driven structured methodology that is used to create breakthrough improvements in business processes with a strong focus on customer needs. It is used to solve tough business problems when the root cause of the problem or the solution is not known.

What is Lean?

How Does Six Sigma Work?
Six Sigma has both management components and technical components. Using this dual approach allows for everyone to have a role in making the Six Sigma plan a success. The management side focuses on using the management system to line up the right projects and match them with the right individuals. Management also focuses on getting the right goals and process metrics to insure that projects are successfully completed and that these gains can be sustained over time. The technical side focuses on enhancing process performance using process data, statistical thinking, and methods. This focused process improvement methodology has five key stages: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. Define is to define process improvement goals that are consistent with customer demands and company strategy. Next measure the key aspects of the current processes that your company is using and collect relevant data about these processes and current results. Then analyze the data to verify cause and affect relationships, be sure to consider all possible factors involved. Then improve or optimize the process based upon data analysis using techniques like Design of Experiments or observational study. The last step is to control to ensure that any deviations are corrected before they result in defects. During this step you will also set up pilot runs to establish process capability and will continuously monitor the process. All tools statistical or not are linked and sequenced in a unique way that makes 6 Sigma both easy and effective to use. The basic approach focuses on the identification of the key process drivers (variables that have the largest effect on output) and relies on software such as Minitab for statistical calculations.

Six Sigma Training More Preferred Than MBA Programs in Recent Poll
Thu Jun 18, 2009 12:53pm EDT CLEVELAND, OH, Jun 18 (MARKET WIRE) It is no secret that in today's economy no job is secure. For the first time in over 25 years, the United States unemployment rate has risen to 9.4% in May of 2009. Along with this grim statistic come salary cuts, demotions, layoffs, and actual job cuts. Craig Setter, president and CEO of Aveta Business Institute's Six Sigma Program, has noticed a new trend in his company's scope -- "At least a few times a day, someone will e-mail our customer care team, asking if a Six Sigma training class or certification could help them either get a job, or help cement their position in their current job." He wanted to answer that question in a non-biased way. Setter was curious, so he put together a small research team who conducted an email-based survey of United States management-level business professionals between April 1, 2009 and June 1, 2009. There were 186 respondents, with questions centered around the subjects of work experience, possessing an MBA, possessing a Project Management Certification, and possessing various degrees of Six Sigma Certification. All of the questions asked who the respondents would hire based on qualifications alone. When asked, work experience being equal, would you prefer to hire someone with an MBA or a Six Sigma Green Belt, 162 (87.1%) respondents stated they would prefer an MBA. When asked, if work experience being equal, would you prefer to hire someone with an MBA or a Six Sigma Black Belt, 161 (86.56%) respondents preferred the Six Sigma Black Belt. When the MBA was challenged by a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, a surprising 182 (97.8%) chose the Master Black Belt. Then, a Project Management Certification was tested against various levels of Six Sigma Certification. Of the respondents, only 41 (22.04%) chose a Six Sigma Green Belt over a Project Management Certification. The Six Sigma Black Belt certification and Six Sigma Master Black Belt Certification both defeated the Project Management Certification with 116 (62.37%) and 168 (90.32%) respondents preferring Six Sigma Certifications respectively. What does this mean? According to Setter, it means that, with experience being equal, more Management-level business professionals would choose an upper level Six Sigma trained individual over both an MBA and a Project Management Certification. What makes a Six Sigma Certification so job-worthy? "Maybe it is the great leadership and problem solving skills a Lean Six Sigma trained individual possesses. Perhaps it is the knowledge of the Six Sigma Methodology that could help their company cut out excess processes and costs. The reason behind the Six Sigma Certification preference will have to wait for another survey," laughs Setter. He continues, "It just shows how valued a Six Sigma is in today's workplace." Six Sigma Master Black Belt 6 Months
Introduction
The Six Sigma Master Black Belt Professional is a teacher and a leader. As a leader, the MBB will have responsibility for overseeing projects with multiple Black Belt and Green Belt participation that will significantly change the way the organization does business. As a teacher, the MBB is responsible for the on-going development of existing Black Belts as well as the development of new ones. Six Sigma Master Black Belt Professional should be a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt who have led and completed at least 2 projects effecting an increase/recover of revenue or Reduction/avoidance of operation cost of at least INR Rs 1 million for the organization(s) In order to obtain the certification, each candidate should 1. Submit C.V & Six Sigma Black Belt completed certificate 2. Submit a project affidavit and project document showing the result of his/her 2 projects. 3. Provide evidence of 20 hrs of Six Sigma training to other professionals. 4. Pass the assessment of Examination Board by attending a one-and-a-half hour interview (45-minutes presentation of the projects experience and 45-minutes of oral exam on the MBB competency skills - (if required).
