0 * * Technos Japan 1991 * * Format: CoinOp, Genre: Wrestling, Players: 1-4 * ******************************************************************** From: lotsofskulls -> bross16444@aol.com Date: 12/13/03 WRESTLEFEST! * SECTION 1 - FAQ * Q. What's a FAQ? A. Frequently Asked Questions, newbie. The term FAQ these days is a loose one; it is now used to apply to any helpful file for a game. Q. How do you pick the Legion of Doom? A. You can't. Sorry. Q. How do you taunt? A. You can't. Sorry. Q. Why is it sometimes I play 4 matches before the LoD, and sometimes 5? A. This is a modifiable dipswitch in the arcade which the owner can change. Those of you who have Raine are able to change this manually. For you techies who like this sort of thing, it's the first switch of Dipswitch B (11h). (No falling asleep at the back!) Q. No, seriously. How do you pick the LoD? A. You REALLY can't! Q. When was Wrestlefest made? A. Hmm. Smash and Crush are here, and THAT didn't last very long. Judging by the fact that Mr. Perfect is still here and at the same time as Sgt. Slaughter, I would presume that Warrior is the champ and this is set just after WrestleMania VI/just before SummerSlam that year - Summer 1990. Q. What is the square root of 7,988? A. 89.375612 to 6dp. Q. This is a great game! Are there any other great WWF games about? A. Why, I'm glad you asked. There is WWF Superstars, which if you have Raine is available at www.emux.com amongst others. The other arcade game is originally called Wrestlemania - The Arcade Game. It's okay, but uses a naff MK3 sort of combo-fighting. It's very odd, and I'm glad Acclaim have come back to the more 'traditional' wrestling games. Q. What about other formats? A. Well, here goes... (let me know if I've missed any) Microleague Wrestling (Amiga/ST/C64D) WWF SuperStars (Arcade) WWF Wrestlemania (NES) Wrestlefest (Arcade) WWF European Rampage (Amiga/ST/C64/Amstrad CPC/Spectrum 48k/PC) WWF Super Wrestlemania (SNES/MD) WWF Royal Rumble (SNES/MD) WWF Superstars (Gameboy)

Rage in the Cage (M-CD/Game Gear) Raw (SNES/MD/Gameboy/Game Gear) Survivor Series (32X) In Your House! (Saturn/PSX) Super Wrestlemania - The Arcade game (Arcade/MD/Saturn/PSX) Warzone (PSX/N64) Attitude (PSX/N64)

Q. Can I pick Demolition individually? A. Well you CAN pick Crush and someone else... Go to Demolition, then sort of mash Up, Down and Left at the same time. Try it a few times, it'll work! Your cursor will highlight the 'blank' at the bottom right where Crush is in the Royal Rumble select. Press a button and crush will be selected, leaving you free to pick someone other than Smash. (Thanx to brettw14@aol.com for that one.) Q. Can you pick the LoD? A. Well, actually... see Section 9. * SECTION 2 - Legend * U D L R P K = = = = = = Up Down Left Right Punch Kick

Wrestlers' finishers are in BLOCK CAPS. <= S indicates that it is a submission move, that is, the move will continue draining energy until one of three things happen: 1. The opponent breaks out of it 2. The move is broken up by outside interference 3. All the opponent's energy is drained, causing a submission & a win. There are two prone positions: horizontal and diagonal. When your opponent lies diagonally they are nearing the end of their energy bar. Each wrestler has four grapple moves which are performed two at a time in rotation, eg. when starting on a fresh wrestler Hulkster will do a Body Slam followed by a Snap Mare until their energy reaches a certain level. Then he will switch between an Atomic Drop and a Suplex. This does not always apply to the CPU, and it can get confused in a Rumble as well. * SECTION 2 - The Characters and Moves * HULK HOGAN Weight : 303lbs >From : Venice Beach, CA Birthday : August 11 Trademark Hold : Legdrop off the ropes "Whatcha gonna do when Hulkamania runs wild on YOU?" massive clothesline. If they do this, start praying or paying! * SECTION 3 - Double-Teaming * There are three ways to double-team: 1. After the Restrain move (K from behind). Your partner (in tag mode) will be allowed in and can kick or punch the opponent. 2. When the opponent is in a headlock (P in grapple), you are free to wander about, wrestler firmly embedded in armpit. If you roam over to your corner and tag(P or K), your partner will leap from the turnbuckle and smash 'em over the head. This also allows both wrestlers in the ring for a brief period. 3. If you tag your partner then press P+K by a prone opponent's legs, they are free to do any ground attacks. (In 1P mode, just dump your opponent near your corner with their feet pointing at your corner. The CPU should do the rest) * SECTION 4 - Out Of The Ring * Possibly the bizarrest application of fighting outside of the ring is used in Wrestlefest. With a quick Body Slam, Back Body Drop or Animal's Press Slam you are transported to a different zone. The steps and the metal case are up for grabs, both of which do great damage. If your opponent stays in the ring, take the opportunity to double-team his partner. Let your mate do the grappling, and just when the other guy gets up, lay the Smack down with a foreign object. Beware however, as the CPU will always grab an object if he is standing over it. Weirdest of all, as soon as both of you are back inside the ring, the ring is reset, as if nobody had been outside and you are even plucked from the top rope were you contemplating it. A great tactic is to climb the top rope immediately after hurling someone outside. If you leap at the earliest possible moment, they will stand still awaiting your clobbering attack! * SECTION 5 - The Royal Rumble * "Choose 1 wrestler and beat wrestlers one after another come to fight with. Get them out of the ring get fall, and be a champion." <sic> The Royal Rumble has a simple flaw which is exploitable with anyone except Ted DiBiase and Mr Perfect. Right at the start or for any fresh wrestlers, grab and smack 'em in a headlock. Walk them to the nearest ropes. When you reach them, turn around and press a button. This will send them soaring over the ropes with a Body Slam (this is why the two mentioned above cannot do it - they do not have a Body Slam)! Do not be put off if they Snap Mare or something, just pick 'em right back up again and repeat. * SECTION 6 - Saturday Night's Main Event * "Choose 2 wrestlers and make team. Use combination play and keep beating some games. Finally fight with 'WWF Wrestlefest' champion 'Legion Of Doom'." <sic> There is no 'easy' technique to get you through this part of the game, but it helps to rely on double-teaming and fast tags - energy regenerates quickly for the partner outside of the ring. Whenever possible throw the CPU scum out of the ring for double-teaming man's energy bar - this double damage. Tag them alert you to this fact. malarkey. Watch for the words 'Power Up' in the illegal means that they will win every grapple and inflict in as soon as possible; they will shake the ropes to NB. Going outside of the ring loses the Power Up.

* SECTION 7 - Less Obvious Move Descriptions * Atomic Drop - After hoisting them up over his head, the wrestler then drops the small of their back onto his knee.

Back Body Drop - Ducking his head, the opponent is vaulted over the wrestler's back. Back Breaker - The opponent is lifted into the air then the back is drpaed over the outstretched knee. Back Suplex - After dashing behind the opponent, he is then lifted up and backwards all the way over. Body Slam - The opponent is scooped up over the wrestler's head and slammed back-first onto the mat (hence Scoop-Slam). Boss Man Slam - (AKA Sidewalk Slam) The Big Boss Man catches a running opponent with a mighty bicep and slams them down onto the mat. Boston Crab - The wrestler first grabs the pone opponent's legs under his arms and then turns over sitting down. Chestbreaker - The wrestler is slammed chest first over the outstretched knee. Clothesline - (AKA Lariat) The wrestler sticks out his outstretched arm to collide with the opponent's neck. Cobra Clutch - Slaughter grabs his opponent's skull and proceeds to drive his knuckle into their temple. DDT - Jake wraps his arm around their head and falls backwards. Earthquake Splash - Earthquake bounces off the ropes and then drops his entire weight onto their chest, bum first. Figure-Four Leglock - After grabbing one prone leg, the wrestler spins around to wrap the leg around their own and then drops to the floor, bracing the opponent's legs with each other (?). Gorilla Press - The opponent is hoisted high into the air and allowed to fall to the mat in a heap. Gut Wrench Suplex - After wrapping their arms around an opponent they are then flipped over onto their back by the stomach. Irish Whip - Simply pushed in a desired direction. Legdrop - Draping a leg across a prone opponent. Million Dollar Dream - (In reality, a Cobra Clutch - see Section 9) Standing behind the opponent, one arm (in Dibiase'e case his right) snakes under the same arm on the opponent's side and clenches the carotid artery on the opposite side of the neck. The wrestler's other arm grabs the opponent's other arm to clench the opponent and provide pressure (phew!). Neckbreaker - The opponent's head is grabbed under an armpit then rotated 180 degrees. This paces the head on top of the wretler's shoulder. They then simply drop to the floor. Noogie - (AKA Russian Haircut) Grab the opponent's head and pound their spam repeatedly. Perfectplex - (AKA Fisherman's Suplex) Lock the head under the armpit and throw their arm over the wrestler's head. Then the opponent's leg is grasped with the free arm and the wrstler then performs a backward bridge, placing the opponent in a pinning predicament. Piledriver - Placing the opponent's head between the wreslter's legs, the rest of their body is then pulled vertical and the whole bundle falls head first to the ground. Powerslam - The opponent is grabbed about the body and then hurled over the head onto their back. Shoulder Breaker - The opponent is hoisted over the wrestler's head and then their shoulder is brought down sharply onto an outstretched knee. Sleeper Hold - From behind the opponent one arm goes around the neck to seize the carotid artery while the other wraps around the forehead and pressurise the temple. Snap Mare - (AKA Flying Mare) With the opponent behind the wrestler, the arms go back to snatch the opponent's head and flip them over the wrestler's shoulder

onto their back. Suplex - With the opponent's head under one arm, the wrestler grabs the opponent's trunks and hoists the opponent over their own head and down onto the floor back-first. * SECTION 8 - Commentary * What that over-excited guy REALLY says... "...Climbs up on the top rope!" NOT "...Donna's on the top rope!" "Warrior - Gorilla Press!" NOT "Warrior - Milk Crate!" "Animal - bear hug!" NOT "Animal - big frog!" "Suplex!" NOT "Shoot him!" "Earthquake - vertical splash!" NOT "Earthquake - terribly fat!" "Hulkster..." NOT "Toaster..." "Sanp Mare!" NOT "Body Rake!" "Slaughter..." NOT "Rraff!" "Sleeper Hold!" NOT "Super Hold!" "Back Suplex!" NOT "Mashed Souffle!" NB. These annotations are all based on personal observations or overhearing someone else getting it wrong, so don't mail me telling me how deaf I am! * SECTION 9 - Action Replay Cheats * Note that you are only able to do these if you possess Raine, the Wrestlefest rom and legally own it... >;) Enter Raine, load Wrestlefest and select: Game Setup Action Replay New a box should appear with the following fields: Name: Addr: Data: Info: Name & Info are irrelevant to the Computer, so put anything helpful to you. *YES! They are finally selectable! With a couple of drawbacks... Hawk's grapple movelist is: Body Slam Standing Dropkick Back Breaker Back Suplex (Neckbreaker) Animal: Body Slam Atomic Drop Bear Hug Gorilla Press (Piledriver) (Hoist) The moves in brackets are performed by obtaining a headlock and then pressing K (as opposed to P - the other characters are indifferent to your button presses). Beware of Animal's 'Hoist' (the set-up to the Doomsday Device) - if you are positioned incorrectly Hawk will not jump and you will effectively have to reset. Animal will keep the opponent on shoulders indefinetly. It seems to me that they WERE intended to be selectable as they have unfinshed portraits. But they must have been pulled late on. Why, Tecmos, why? Note that you have LoD Champ Energy (approximately 2.5 times longer than a normal energy bar!). * SECTION 10 - The Cobra Clutch * You would not believe the amount of emails I get describing why this move is called so! Some believe it's to do with the North African Cobra's killing technique, others give lengthy descriptions of the political environment of the WWF at the time, some speak of Slaughter's then recent return, and one bloke warbled on about "there being a lot of Camels in Asia so that's why..." * SECTION 11 - Special Thanx * Thanx to marlowAK@aol.com and brettw14@aol.com for some top-hole input, and to everyone else who mails me with their thoughts. They really are appreciated. *** 1999 Copyright black2@orinoco.demon.co.uk Please do NOT reproduce without my permission - you know it makes sense.
