Hofstra University is jazzing up the annual Dutch Festival! This year well fill the gardens with jazz music, and for the first time, we will feature a funky city country band! Enjoy delicious food, shop at vendor tables, stroll our beautiful gardens, and pick up a plant or two at our Hofstra Arboretum sales. Magic shows, puppets and craft activities are sure to delight the children.

Celebrating the Music of Americas Favorite Pastime
Featuring The Base Hits Quintet and special guest vocalists
Well take you out to the ballgame with some of baseballs greatest musical hits, including The First Baseball Game (originally sung by Nat King Cole), Joltin Joe DiMaggio, Baseball Boogie, Van Lingle Mungo, Meet the Mets, Jake, Jake, The Yiddisha Ball Player, Talkin Baseball, Say Hey (Willie Mays), and Heart, from the Broadway musical Damn Yankees, to name just a few.
World Premiere!
From marches to ragtime, waltzes to two-steps, polkas, jazz, and show tunes, the songs of baseball are descriptive, humorous, and inspirational, and their lyrics mirror the imagery of their time.

This innovative chamber group zigzags through countries, time periods and stylized dances from classical, flamenco, 1950s Brazilian sambas, and modern-day Argentine tangos to jazz classics, world music and commissioned works written for the quartet.

Screen adaptation of James Joyces novel. Directed by Joseph Strick, starring Bosco Hogan, T.P. McKenna, and John Gielgud. The film explores the quest for authenticity in the context of personal and political turmoil. Discussion to be facilitated by Peggy Matusiak. Author Tom Phelan will read from his novel Nailer the story of the murder of two teachers at an Irish midlands industrial school whose bodies were found nailed to the floor. The search for The Nailer uncovers the abuse of vulnerable boys at the school. Book sale and signing to follow author reading.

Irish Family Fun Day gives local students and families a chance to learn more about and celebrate Irish culture. Children will learn Irish arts and crafts, Gaelic sports, traditional music, step dancing, and the Irish language. There will also be storytelling and films. Children will share what they learn during an ice cream and cookies social.
4:45-6 p.m.
Come enjoy one of the best-known acts of their kind in the United States. The group includes several national champion dancers recognized by the Irish Dance Association of North America. They have qualified for and competed in world championships held in Ireland. (Shamrock Stage)
