Well take you out to the ballgame with some of baseballs greatest musical hits, including The First Baseball Game (originally sung by Nat King Cole), Joltin Joe DiMaggio, Baseball Boogie, Van Lingle Mungo, Meet the Mets, Jake, Jake, The Yiddisha Ball Player, Talkin Baseball, Say Hey (Willie Mays), and Heart, from the Broadway musical Damn Yankees, to name just a few.

20th Annual Italian Experience Festival


Sunday, September 23, 2012 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Outdoors on the South Campus
Guest Conductor: David Ramael, Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Orchestral Activities, Hofstra University Festival Brass Band, under the direction of renowned trumpet player Manu Mellaerts, presents an exciting program of standard works for brass band. Festival Brass Band is one of the premier brass bands in Europe and is known for its unrivaled virtuosity and richness of sound. Including the United States premiere of Sinfonietta No. 1 by Johan de Meij, who will be a special guest at this concert performance. Additional works to be performed include the premiere of Harry James: Trumpet Concerto, William Tell Overture, Dragonheart, and Windows of the World.

From marches to ragtime, waltzes to two-steps, polkas, jazz, and show tunes, the songs of baseball are descriptive, humorous, and inspirational, and their lyrics mirror the imagery of their time.

Author Tom Phelan will read from his novel Nailer the story of the murder of two teachers at an Irish midlands industrial school whose bodies were found nailed to the floor. The search for The Nailer uncovers the abuse of vulnerable boys at the school. Book sale and signing to follow author reading.

Irish Family Fun Day gives local students and families a chance to learn more about and celebrate Irish culture. Children will learn Irish arts and crafts, Gaelic sports, traditional music, step dancing, and the Irish language. There will also be storytelling and films. Children will share what they learn during an ice cream and cookies social.
