The Elevator

Listen to each example. If the notes in the pattern get higher as they go, draw a line from the number to the elevator going up. If the notes get lower, draw a line from the number to the elevator going down. If the notes stay the same, draw a line to the Out of Order sign. You will hear each sound played 2 times.

Listen to each example. Are the notes close together, like steps?, or far apart, like skips? If you hear steps, show the path the frog would take across the lilypads, jumping on every one. If you hear skips, show the path the frog would take if he skipped one on each jump. You will hear each example played 3 times.

Heartbeats

Listen to the speed of the music on the CD. If the music has a fast heartbeat, tap the small hearts below. If the music has a medium heartbeat, tap the medium hearts below. If the music has a slow heartbeat, tap the big hearts below. Keep tapping until you hear the heartbeat change.

Listen for the heartbeat in each example on the CD. Make circles in the air with your arms to match the heartbeat, clapping when theyre together in the middle. When the heartbeats are fast, make little circles. When theyre slow, make big circles. Make medium circles when the heartbeats are somewhere in between fast and slow.

Imagine you are a famous conductor. Your job is to keep the beat for the whole orchestra! In each song, listen until you can hear the heartbeat. Then, make the patterns with your hands, one motion for each beat.

Alphabet Walk

Tear out the alphabet card page from the back of this book and cut out the cards. Lay them in a line on the floor. After you turn on the music, wait to hear 4 repeated notes, then, take one step forward with each beat, speaking one letter with each step. Pause for a beat, then take steps backwards, speaking the alphabet letters backwards as well. Stop and wait for another 4 repeated notes, then start again. Watch outthe music gets faster each time!
