*Cadet Sergeant training: Several potential and current sergeants learned about command voice, drill and ceremonies, leadership style, public speaking, professional writing and note taking, hazing and discipline, and respect. They combined learning with fun and even set up the squadron Christmas tree. *Wreaths Across America: Sat., Dec. 11, noon, Bourne National Cemetery. The van will leave the Airport at 10:45. We will be placing wreaths on soldiers graves after a ceremony. Everyone can participate. Questions? Contact Maj. Yaeger. National Cadet Special Activities (NCSA): These CAP activities are the best vacation you ever will have and are inexpensive. Ask anyone whos been to one. Nearly all require a previous encampment; most have a Jan. 15 deadline for applying. NESA (National Emergency Services Academy): Applications are being accepted. Early applicants get discounts. You learn a lot, meet great people and many who attend go back year after year. Ask cadet Goodall about her experiences. *Other upcoming events (See Maj. Yaeger for more information): Mattapoisett American Legion spaghetti dinner for disabled vets March 13. Mass. Wing Conference March 25-27, Resort & Conference Center at Hyannis. Possible trip to Washington, D.C. April school vacation week. Sergeant training April 30-May 1. Teach cadets how to teach drill, etc. New Bedford Airshow May 21. We will work the flight line and a display table. Mini-Encampment Memorial Day weekend. Prepare to graduate from Basic. Drill team: The Essex County Squadron is forming a drill team. Practices have been 3 Sundays a month. So far they have 8 members and one from Pilgrim has joined. If anyone else wants to join, even from other squadrons, carpooling can be arranged. Contact Maj. Yaeger or Lt. Col. Antoinette Fischer. Outback Astronomy: On clear evenings after our meetings, we may take telescopes outside to look at stars and planets for a short time. Voluntary for cadets whose parents allow them to stay longer. Weather rules, so obviously we cant plan very far ahead. Parents welcome. Safety briefings: To participate in CAP activities, all members must have at least one safety briefing a month. If a member misses our monthly safety briefing, he or she can take an online briefing in eServices (way down on left panel). This new regulation will affect ES qualifications, pilot currency and maybe promotions. Required training: All cadets and seniors must take the Equal Opportunity, Operations Security and Ground Handling training. Maj. Yaeger will not promote anyone who hasnt. The first two are under CAP Online courses and Exams in eServices. Ground Handling is under Online Safety Education in eServices.
