All of Us - #537
Fr. Larry Polish Lenten Mission We pray for the success of the Polish Lenten Mission that takes place this week. We welcome to our parish Fr. Guz, who will be speaking on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. May this be a time of spiritual reflection and renewal as we accept the Lenten challenge presented by Jesus who calls all of us to Return, Repent and Believe. Lent allows us to focus on our relationship with God and others, especially through our acts of prayer, fasting and charitable giving. How are we doing? Where is there room for improvement? We believe that with Gods help and grace, inner change is possible for us. Thats the hope and promise of Lent. And With Your Spirit! Please hold in your prayers this week our young men and women from our parish school and religious education program who enter into their final time of prayer and preparation as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, March 17th. I had the opportunity to meet with our teens during the past two weeks to reflect upon the meaning of the sacrament in their lives. They shared with me the various ways that they have put their Catholic faith into action. They realize that the Sacrament of Confirmation is something to be lived out every day by adults. They also had the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation as a way of asking God to heal and forgive them of their sinfulness, and allow them to open their minds and hearts to Gods loving Spirit in their life. The Body of Christ This Sunday afternoon I will celebrate my second Preparation Mass with the children who are receiving their First Holy Communion this year, and their parents. I will take the time to explain, step by step, the meaning of the Liturgy of the Eucharist to them. At Mass, we remember, celebrate and believe in the real presence of Jesus that is offered to us in the sacred bread and wine. This is the spiritual food that Jesus gave to his disciples at the Last Supper, and to us, each time
we come to this Paschal meal. It is the food that feeds the hungers of our soul. Nothing else does. This Tastes Really Good! Speaking of food and fellowship, all are invited to our second Parish Fish Fry this Lent. It takes place Friday, March 16th in the gym. The event is sponsored by the members of our Board of Specified Jurisdiction, (BSJ) for our parish school. Its a fun night out. The kids do a great job serving tables and the parents work hard at putting out a really good meal. Come and check it out on Friday. Please, No Parking Please pay special attention to the several designated no parking areas, especially the one located right in front of our church steps. It is important that emergency vehicles always have clear access to our buildings. Plus, note that we have a number of physically impaired parishioners who need the handicapped spaces to have access to their vehicles . On days when parking is very limited due to a plethora of activity in the parish, remember that there is additional parking available just down the hill at Central School. A brisk walk up the hill will be good for ones health. Its an easy way to burn a few extra calories, (especially during Lent). Our Faith, Our Gift, Our Home At all the Masses next weekend, we will have the opportunity to review the status of our capital campaign entitled, Our Faith, Our Gift, Our Home. Check your mailbox this week for information that was recently mailed to every registered parishioner.

Bishop John Manz will be with us to confirm our students. Each of the 8th graders will have had an opportunity to go to Reconciliation before they are confirmed and Fr. Larry will also have an opportunity to spend some time with them talking about the Sacrament of Confirmation. Please keep these young people in your prayers this week. Today our second graders and their families will come together at 3:30 PM in the church to attend the second Prep Mass. This Prep Mass will cover Liturgy of the Eucharist and Fr. Larry and Mrs. Mira will periodically stop and explain the different parts of the Mass. These are teaching Masses that help our young people along with their families better understand the Mass.

Volunteer for a SS. Cyril & Methodius Ministry
As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another 1 Peter 4:8-11
Below are descriptions of ministries in areas of our parish life which have the biggest need for your gifts and talents:
Art & Environment
Decorates the church and gym for Christmas and Easter and takes care of flowers and other liturgical symbols in church throughout the year. There are many opportunities to volunteer in this Ministry depending on ones availability. Choirs, Cantors and Instrumentalists, we have a place for everyone to share their musical gifts with God and our community. Most choirs rehearse weekly for an hour. Cantors are song leaders who lead the congregation in singing music for each Mass and rehearse twice a month. Cantors can sing at Masses as little or as often as they like. Other rehearsals are scheduled as needed. Our religious education program focuses on the need for students to embrace Jesus in their lives, speak about the faith they share and relate to one another so that the Word of God is always present with them. We need catechists, catechist aides and crossing guards for the upcoming school year. Classes are held on a weekly basis for an hour and a half from September until mid-April. The benefits of sharing your faith with the children of our parish are enormous. Your response now will help us prepare for the next session. The Board of Specified Jurisdiction (BSJ) is designed to cooperate and collaborate with the Pastor and principal to support the work of administering and leading the school. It is composed of a variety of committees which meet on a regular basis. The focus of each committee is to help identify and address school needs and goals. Programs and activities for the youth of the three Lemont Parishes (SS. Cyril & Methodius, St. Alphonsus and St. Patrick) are created to involve 13- to 17-year olds in parish life and continued spiritual growth. Outings, day trips, sports, scripture study and contemporary Masses are just a few of the activities sponsored throughout the year. Parents and chaperones are needed for these various events and projects. RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is a program for adults interested in becoming Catholic. The role of a sponsor is to act as a guide or friend during class and around the parish. The sponsor attends the Monday evening sessions with the candidate, as they feel comfortable. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with the Church and welcome new members. Your response now will help us prepare for the next session. Involves planning the funeral liturgy with the family and/or serving as a sacristan for the Funeral Mass. Distribute Holy Communion (bread and wine) at Mass. Prior to becoming a Communion Minister, training is required by the Archdiocese of Chicago. Upon completion of training, the person is then commissioned at Mass and given a certificate from the Archdiocese. Communion ministers usually serve about once a month. Proclaim the Word of God at Mass and for Prayer Services and also offer the Prayers of the Faithful when a deacon is not present. Upon completion of a mandatory training program, the person is commissioned as a lector and is usually scheduled once a month. Assist parishioners upon arrival at church and help with seating during crowded liturgies. Ushers guide the faithful in an orderly manner to receive Holy Communion and they also take up the collection. Sunday sacristans help before and after Mass to prepare the liturgical items and vessels used at our Sunday liturgies. As a wedding sacristan, youll explain the wedding liturgy and practice the marriage ceremony with the bridal party, prepare our sacred space for the celebration of Mass and assist families on the day of the wedding. The rectory occasionally needs help with various office functions; Saturday receptionists, bulk mailings, bulletin and envelope stuffing.
