The Persian influence is still noticeable in Iran in the language, the architecture, and in literature. Farsi is still widely regarded as the language of choice within Iran. Semi-circular and oval-shaped vaults and symmetry is showcased in Irans mosques and other important buildings. These distinct shapes are typically architecturally showcased in Persian style architecture. The literature is heavily composed of poetry. Some of the worlds most treasured ancient poetry was written by Persian poets. Although Farsi is regarded as a Persian language numerous dialects of it are spoken exclusively within Iran. The sport of Polo has also recently regained its status in Iran. Polo was a sport that began in Iran in the late nineteenth century. 2. Domestically the surge in population and the recent public protests questioning the legitimacy of the regime. Iran has recently started perusing nuclear technology. Iran has stated that this technology is to be used for energy, however many wonder why would Iran, the fourth biggest producer of oil, need nuclear energy. In the process of pursuing nuclear technology Russia, China, and India have backed Iran is their pursuit of nuclear technology. The pursuit of nuclear technology has strained already strained relations with the United States and Great Britain. The United States does not formally recognize Iran, since the takeover of the United States embassy in the later part of the 1970s. Most recently, in 2007, Iran held captive fifteen British military officers. This shows Iran is still not above totalitarian scare tactics on a global level. The Islamic Republic of Iran
